Police stop for semi slicks

I don't understand why you would use them on the road, what if it rains? they aren't going to disperse water very well.
If you don’t understand, why comment. Tyres are either legal or they aren’t. OP’s are presumably E-marked and exceed the minimum tread depth. Traffpol being a b

Depends on the car/use surely?I wouldn't use them on a year-round commuter rep doing 20k a year but I'd use them (and did have R888R's at one point) on a weekend performance car
OP - get a garage to measure tread depths officially or contact the PC's superior to get them to check the stupidity before you take it further - if no joy then appeal the ticket and it'll be dropped.

Many many cater field and lotus owners use them. You just go out when it's dry and slow down on the very rare occasion you get caught in the wet. I've used 32rs, 48rs, and the kumho and federal versions whose name escapes me.
Never crashed once and I've even done wet track days on them.
Sure, they're not an everyday tyre.
Post a few pics up of the tread pattern and depth. I suspect they "look" worn from new given the semi slick tread? Thus the copper was just doing his job. Also, are these new tyres or have they seen a few thousand miles and are thus even slicker?
Not sure they will be much use when your car hits a lot of standing water though? Even 6mm tread on PS4s has left my car squirming when I've unexpectedly hit standing water.

This. I had no qualms at all using AD08R on my fair-weather MX5, and yes, I’d take my 4-year old lad out in it without a 2nd thought.I wouldn't use them on a year-round commuter rep doing 20k a year but I'd use them (and did have R888R's at one point) on a weekend performance car

I didn’t commute in it though, nor took it out if there was any chance of a downpour.
The tyres are e4 marked.
I had another set in the garage ready to fit as the rears were close, he even came to my garage and had a look at the labels etc still on the new set, he changed his tune Abit and told me to get the new ones put on asap so I did this morning. But that wasn’t the point he was making he’s saying they’re not legal on our roads at all. He was trying to measure the depth on the slick part of the tyre I couldn’t actually believe it. I said go off the wear markers and he was saying I need to measure in the middle repeatedly

The Law: The legal limit for minimum depth of the tread on your tyres is 1.6 millimetres, across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre.
There's no tread in the middle of that tyre.
Maybe we don't need fast cars with D-rated wet grip on the roads either?

How much of a benefit are semi slicks like this, vs say PS4s for normal or even fast road use? Do they offer massive increases in grip? I can't say I've struggled for grip with Michelins before now (the odd chirrup when cornering hard but the car doesn't break traction much).
I'm surprised these are UK legal given the lack of tread. Sounds like the copper was too lol

I used to run ps4 and put the ar1 on for summer and the grip is levels above in the dry of course. I'm surprised these are UK legal given the lack of tread. Sounds like the copper was too lol
