Speeding fine 14 day rule

Got a notice to prosecute come through to my employers office for doing 57mph in a 50 at the dartford crossing.
The date the offence took place was the 4/4/22 and the first letter my employer received was dated the 22/5/22.
How does this 14 day thing work if indeed it still does? Do I have to challenge that in court?

Who is the registered keeper? That is the important question and you need the exact answer if you wish to challenge it on the 14 day ruling.
My employer would be as it’s their van. It’s £100 (a lot of money to give away) and 3 points and it’s my fault for not paying attention so fairs fair but if I can keep my licence clean I’d like to (I know not breaking the law is the best way to do such).essexplumber said:

Are you sure on that? Were I worked although we owned the vans they were leased back to a leasing company which meant any speeding, parking tickets etc went to them.Matt_E_Mulsion said:
Definitely not a leased van etc? I doubt that it took a month and a half to send the first letter to the registered keeper.
I did think that was a bit lengthy! Could be leased but it’s 4 years old now so surely it would’ve gone back by now.I’ll make enquiries with my office.

At that speed you will almost certainly be offered a speed awareness course, still a lot of money but no points. That is if that option has not gone because of the time delay, not sure of that but does it say anything about SAC on the paperwork?NGee said:

Pretty sure I done one in the first lockdown! Thing is I really do drive like miss daisy nowadays, I had 9 points about 8 years ago and it scared the life out of me.I very rarely do more than 75 on the Mways but obviously I did when I got caught.

If they're sent out just as ordinary first or second class mail with no proof of receipt surely everyone could claim that they received it outside of the 14 days period?

A NIP issued by first class mail must be posted such that the ordinary course of post would see it delivered within 14 calendar days from the date of the alleged offence (Day 0).
Where first class is used, service is deemed to have been effected two business days after posting, unless the contrary can be proved..
The rules are slightly different for recorded delivery services, but these are rarely (if ever) used these days..
