New Spanish cash camera

I read this in a French publication today. Definitely not something I'm in favour of.

Police in Spain are testing a new type of speed camera that can detect drivers who brake heavily just before they reach the camera zone and then speed up again once past.

These drivers can save themselves a fine but are a collision risk for other road users as they brake suddenly.

The new radars mean drivers could be fined for ‘braking’ and not for ‘speeding’.

The new cameras in Spain come in two types: anti-braking and cascade.
For the first type, a mobile camera is installed just before the fixed camera and will catch drivers who, even if braking, are still speeding.
The cascade radars are similar, but in reverse, with a mobile camera sited just after the fixed one to catch drivers who speed up again.

Not much differnce to some of what goes on over here. I've seen a Mobile unit set up just after a fixed Camera

How about the auto collision avoidance braking systems?
Unless turned off the driver may not be the cause of braking. What criteria are applied to determine the amount of braking?
As for speeding up after passing, then use a second camera or average speed system.

Surely that will just move the braking point to before the camera that’s there to detect braking so in effect it’ll just be a longer run at the correct speed.

When they introduce the new auto slowdown for new model cars that stick to the speed limit will they get caught when they slow down before the limit?

What's really needed is a camera to catch those doing 39 mph in a 40 stretch, who still brake when they see a camera.

Not seeing the issue. You just brake before the detect-you-braking camera and then wait another 5 seconds after passing the detect-you-speeding-up camera, before speeding back up and carrying on as normal.

Or brake really hard then stop reverse pull up for 20 mis then continue on.
Or remove the bulbs.

Nothing new, remember discussing the original vehicle mounted speed cameras (not UK) with my boss back in 1990 ish.

The fine was larger if the brake lights were on in the photo taken by the camera.
