Evening folks. Typing on my phone so apologies if there’s any stupid spelling mistakes/auto correct bloopers.

PH really can be a fountain of knowledge at times, so looking for some advice with regards to a recent purchase of mine.
I know most people enjoy to hear the full story, but to be honest, whilst it has many twists of tale, it is very boring.

I spotted a roll cage for sale on everyone’s favourite social media platform. The lad being 200 miles away, I arranged for him to drop the cage off to my mates unit in Sunderland, as I was heading up (from Stoke on Trent) the following weekend.
Having got home, unpackaged the cage, it became apparent that there is no footplates and no hardware. Whilst this probably seems like a trivial thing, it is quite an annoyance given the money I’ve paid.

Now the lad has pretty much blamed everyone but himself for these missing bits, told me his entire life story, but we ‘amicably’ came to the agreement that we would go halves for the bits to be replaced.

This came to the tune of £140

Now he’s decided that he’s poor, can’t afford £70, and is working to get himself out of his overdraft. Since mentioning his overdraft, he’s now taken to ignoring me. So now my question, am I being silly for considering putting a claim in through small claims? (For the sake of £70/£140)
I’m not particularly arsed about the money, it’s more the principle.

Copy of the listing:

It seems I’m the red herring with this transaction, as I’ve mates who’ve dealt with him without issue. Obviously I’ve been an idiot and paid via PayPal F&F.

It is annoying, but you already know the answer to the question don't you?

I advise having nothing more to do with this 'canny lad'

Chalk your small loss up to 'lessons learned'

This sounds like something my old man would say laugh

I guess now is a good time to go completely missing from the thread.

I suppose it depends how much you want the cage.

You are entitled to return the whole thing to him as misdescribed and get the full £1000 back; so it would probably be better for him to give you just the £70 now. Would it be worth your time/costs in returning it though?

Or you consider the price to have been £1140 rather than £1070 - would that still have been a good deal?
