Registration mark changed after car was 6 months old?

Just done an HPI check on a car I have just purchased from an official Porsche centre. (I didn't do it last week as my contact who does it was away and I thought, Sytner Porsche dealership, they would have all that done anyway).
On the HPI report I now have, it says that the car was originally registered with PO16 *** on the date shown in the V5. The three suffix letters are nothing special.
After 6 months the reg mark was changed to LS16 +++, again nothing special and that was the reg I purchased the car with.
I have never seen that before and there is no mention of a cherished number being involved and even if there was one applied that was subsequently removed, the DVLA normally assign the orinal reg number.
The original area identifier on the plate, PO indicates Preston whilst the subsequent identifier, LL, is London.
Can anyone shed any light as to what has occurred please and why the reg number would change?

Not yet, thought I would ask the experts first! 
I have looked to see if the original reg has an MOT on the Gov website, but no car found. So if the original reg was a cherished number, it's not been on a car for a while.

Indeed, I have my car registered with a number plate comprising my wife's initials, the year we married followed by my initials. Looks ordinary to anybody else. She has her initials, random number followed by MUD on her Jeep and FUN on her Mustang.andygo said:

My car has a personal number, but previously had someone else's, when I changed it all the mot info changed too
