My mother who is 82 rcentley recieved a speeding NIP. Shortley after she was offered a speed awareness course.
She doesn't want to do the course as " I can't spend all that time on a computer. I've got to much to do."
I have done a speed awareness course and it was only about four hours.
She wants to take points and a fine, but I keep trying to get her to do the course.
Question is what sort of fine would she recieve if she tok the fine and points instead of the course.
She was doing 37 in a 30 limit.

Not really any sure way of testing this, but at her age I wonder whether it would have a disproportiate effect on her insurance if she takes the points?

My wife just got one for 35 - done by a red light camera that she always panics about, apparently it was converted to do speed too a couple of years ago, so she's done well to escape until now.

Probably not, if its her first. And it denies the SCP vital lifeblood, so less pensions and new desks in March. Rishi will also be grateful.

She's thinking of packing up driving soon as her licence is due to expire and she can't see the point of getting a new one.

She should take the points if she wants to.

It will make little or no difference to her insurance costs.

My wife did the same and it made zero difference come renewal.

That's a bit of a bd.
If I was 82 and just about to give up driving, I'd want my monies worth and would be very annoyed at anything under 100mph.

Made a £90 difference at next renewal.

Is you wife 82? Insurance costs are creeping back up at that age so a speeding may well have an adverse effect.

I remember when expecting 3 points and a fine I ran quotes with and without the SP30 and the most noticeable issue was the best value quotes were removed when I said I was on 3 points. A loss of about £60.

This was over a decade ago and since then no doubt many, many more are on 3 points so perhaps it is not so costly now. But my fear is when you say 'my insurance did not go up' it could be because you were paying one of the less competitive premiums in the first place.

Anyhow, still easy to do the above on a comparison site and see what happens.
