When you sold your car to a total muppet!

I sold my S Class back on the 31st of July to a chap from Stratford, London. Him and his brother came to look at the car, were keen, we struck a deal and he took there car there and then. Was all a bit quicker than anticipated but he transferred the money to me, all went through fine, V5 filled in, new keeper slip to him and off her went.
We get to yesterday and a letter comes through my door for a parking fine he's managed to get. Overstaying in a space, £60. Annoying but it happens. I have e-mailed the Gemini Parking Solutions with details and hopefully they'll go after him instead.
Today, another letter through the door, this time for not paying to drive into the ULEZ!! I sold the car because it's not compliant and I'm about 100m inside the proposed expansion. His address is in the ULEZ anyway but I didn't think anything of it, he didn't ask so that was that.
I have gone onto the Gov website and submitted my representation on there. Including the THREE MORE occasions he's driven round the ULEZ without paying.
So this guy has accumulated nearly £400 in fines, within the first four days of owning the car. The first being 9am the next day!
Thankfully I took a photo of the new keeper form before I sent it off which I have provided as evidence, also screen shots of the two bank transfers which helpfully he labelled with the cars registration as the reference and screenshots of the advert I took out on Autotrader.
I can't work out if this guy is a total idiot or a scamming git who's hoping to get away with it. Has anyone else had any experience of this?

Bit late now, but why didn't you transfer ownership online immediately? That avoids all this hassle. You have no guarantee that your V5C will even get to DVLA let alone be processed in a timely fashion. All you can now do is wait. Do you still have the V5C reference number? You might be able to call DVLA and ask if it's been received, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I didn't think of it on the day, I had a 250 miles round trip to do immediately after the sale so the car went, money received and straight in the car. Wasn't home in time to do it. So I just posted the form off as I've done for various cars in the past. I may have to try and phone the DVLA tomorrow but not much I can do now these have come through anyway.
I have photograph of the new keeper form before I sent it, I don't have the original V5 unless it's one of the numbers shown on the green slip.
Maybe he has driven into the ULEZ zone unwittingly. Unlike the congestion charge zone I don't think the ULEZ boundaries are that clear when you're actually driving. It happened to me in my daughter's (non ULEZ compliant) MINI D. Going from Richmond to Chiswick via the A316 for some pastries - did it twice before I realised the error of my ways and ended up paying the 2 x £12.50 ULEZ charge 
Still - very expensive mistake on his part though.

I agree it is easily done, although during the conversation we had prior to him buying I said about him being in Stratford and being in the ULEZ and he confirmed they were. Still - very expensive mistake on his part though.
For anyone unfamiliar I totally see how someone could miss it, for someone living inside the zone, I'm struggling to think he either doesn't care or is happy to rack up the fines in my name in the hope they don't end up with him.
I'm just hoping I don't end up being hounded for these fines or the appeals ignored.

You can only do this between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 as I found out the other week buying my new shed. Maybe the DVLA computer needs it's beauty sleep? austina35 said:

Possibly, although he transferred money from two accounts to make up the amount. One was a business account, the other being a personal one with a name attached to it. I've had the money and it's been moved to other accounts no problem. Also the car is showing as taxed and insured which if he'd planned to falsify things entirely I'd imagine it wouldn't be. Also, it wasn't a dirt cheap car, he paid almost £6k for it. I'd understand if it was a £500 banger but maybe that's just me.
Weirdly, in case anything happened I actually took a photo of each of the guys. I don't know why but because it was rushed, I thought I'd cover my ar$e just in case. The guy who bought the car is the same as the person in the Whatsapp photo which is still showing so that's not been blocked.
It's a bit odd really.
If you ignore the first digit on the new keeper slip, the rest is the original 11 digit V5c document ref number. you can also check if a new one has been already issued by checking here:

Last change of V5c is showing when I received the new one after transferring my number plate off. Not updated as of yet.

Not related to your experience, several years ago I sold a "shed" for £610 on the bay of e, all went well, no issues until...........
Few weeks after the sale I received a knock on the door from BiB.
It turns out that the buyer had given me false details, so the V5 hadn't been registered, the car had been used for a getaway vehicle & found abandoned, so it was still officially mine.
If I so wanted to, I could SORN the car & when they had finished with it I could go & get it back.
Unfortunately it was in Glasgow & I lived near Hull or I would have done so & sold it again.
Few weeks after the sale I received a knock on the door from BiB.
It turns out that the buyer had given me false details, so the V5 hadn't been registered, the car had been used for a getaway vehicle & found abandoned, so it was still officially mine.
If I so wanted to, I could SORN the car & when they had finished with it I could go & get it back.

I have done. Slip given to the new owner and I kept the V5. Posted it off the following day. I just so happened to photograph the new keeper part of the V5 before I posted it. cantstopbuyingcars said:
In all fairness, despite the inconvenience of receiving the fines- if you can prove the car was sold on x date you won't be able to get fined for this. Even if they take you to court you can prove this with receipt of payment for the car on that date.
Thank you and yes, I have multiple forms of proof thankfully. I'm hoping that what I have provided so far is enough for them to take that and if the DVLA process the form soon it'll reiterate it. E-bmw said:
