Hi All,
My brother has received notice of an alleged offense, 70 in a 50 zone.
In the images provided showing the 70mph, the car is not at all clearly identified, the image with his reg clearly shown, his car is doing 45mph. Is this worth an appeal?
Pictures below for reference, grateful for any information.

First two are showing the car at 70MPH. Last photo is showing the number plate clearly. If it was contested they'll show the video to show that the A class was at 70 and then slowed to 45 when the VRM was shown. My brother has received notice of an alleged offense, 70 in a 50 zone.

It seems unlikely the defence 'that was not my Merc' as yes, it is not clearly identified, is a decent one as tempting as it may be to try. The 2nd pic does include the Merc's badge which seals it in my opinion.
Cannot see any court not siding with the police on the 3 pictures being of the same vehicle. The cost of a decent lawyer to fight that would be more expensive than a fine, win or lose I'd think, too.
But sure, you can always ask a lawyer for a view as the first two pics do not show the plate, agreed.

You've posted stills from a video recording. The vehicle is clearly identified in my opinion. My brother has received notice of an alleged offence, 70 in a 50 zone.

70 mph at the point of detection (309 metres) and slowed to 45 mph when 60 metres from the laser speedmeter.
249 metres in approximately 10 seconds = average speed of 55 mph.
70/50 mph is too fast for a course but within the range for a £100 Fixed Penalty with 3 points.

However, if I read it right
Image 1 is time stamped at 17:36:00, it has a distance to target of 346.6m
Image 2 is time stamped at 17:36:02, it has a distance to target of 309.3m
So, 37.3m traveled in 2 seconds. That equals 18.65 m/s which according to an online calculator is 41.7mph
However, the operator will say that the time stamp is displayed without the ms part ( they may claim it is truncated rather than rounded)
Therefore worst case is the timestamps could actually be 17:36:00.999 and 17:36:02.000
which would give a time of 1.001s
That would be a speed of 37.3m/1.001s which comes out as 83mph.
So, in short, no I wouldn't want to run that as a defence.
If the numbers came out better, then bringing the beam width in to is as to whether it is the red car being measured might be worth it - but they don't, so it isn't.
