Really odd identity theft or weirdly generous person

Came home yesterday to find a large box that had been left by a courier by my bins. Addressed to me and unopened, it was a TV stand that I didn’t order. Today a courier tried to deliver a coffee table that was also addressed to me that I didn’t order. I’ve checked all my active credit/debit cards and no suspicious transactions. It’s definitely not been ordered by the wife or kids. Both parcels were sent from a company called Jacamo who’d I’d never heard of until now. I’ve had a look online and they sell clothes and home furnishings. My guess is someone’s set up some credit in my name but I don’t get why they’ve then let the items be delivered to me!
I’ve reported it to Jacamo so will wait to hear what they say but has anyone had something similar? Is someone going to try to kick down my door to get £80 worth of TV stand?? It’s just really bloody odd!!

Jacamo is like catalogues of old, anything ordered on there is on some sort of credit agreement. Not sure if you have to pay it off monthly or in one go, but you have to apply for a credit account to get goods sent out.

The parent company is JD Williams. I’ve been using them for years as I hate clothes shopping. As I recall there’s not much in the way of checks in signing up for a credit account. You don’t have to pay it off all at once but there will be a minimum payment every month. Very odd
Have you wound anyone up? My passing thought is that someone may be deliberately trying to run up a bill in your name.
Expect someone turning up in a hi viz and with a clip board to turn up and collect the items that have accidentally been sent , there will mysteriously be no van in sight , if there is it will be a rusty transit with plates that relate to Vauxhall Astra or some other completely different vehicle , they will also be wearing a cap and be worried about covid safety and have a face mask on . They can get quite angry and aggressive if you don’t have the stuff over , which you absolute shouldn’t.
Thanks all. The first package was left down the side of our house most of the day and no-one came to nick it. Can’t think of anyone I’ve annoyed so I’m guessing we’ll get a knock on the door soon! My worry is someone’s set up credit in my name so hopefully Jacamo will confirm this either way.

Would an Experian or similar credit check show that too ?
It may be worth registering with CIFAS incase someone is planning to run up a big bill in your name. First order is a TV stand, next is a MacBook, but to a different address... I wouldn't be waiting for them to get back in touch with you - get on the phone straight away and find out what the story is.

Good shout.Establish a line of credit, get the first goods sent to the right address (i.e. tied to the credit-holder), then establish an alternative delivery address once 'your' bona-fides have been established, to which the expensive orders then get delivered afterwards.
1 month later you get a statement saying you owe X thousand pounds...

I had a letter from JD Williams recently to my address but in the name of someone who has never lived here (we are the 2nd occupiers of a new build). The letter was saying they’d failed a credit check so an attempt to create an account was stopped until the applicant got in touch.
Obviously I alerted JD Williams to a suspected fraud attempt and asked them to never accept any such application at our address in future.
I also set up a Experian Credit Check for a month to be careful. However, I spoke with Experian who said even if there had been a successful fraud, linked to our address, the fact the name differs would mean zero impact on us.
OP- as this thing of yours is in your name, I strongly recommend having an Experian credit check for a few months and monitoring it.

A couple of years ago, I opened a Very account in order to buy a PS5 for my son as it was the only place with stock at the time.
A few months after, someone managed to open another account in my name (so it appeared on my Experian report) but with a different address about 3 miles from where we live.
They then proceeded to order several expensive items.
I only noticed as I got an alert from Experian.
Very we’re actually quite helpful… closed the extra account and put a block on the original so nothing could be ordered without extra checks.
I don’t think the prospective thief actually managed to get anything delivered in the end.
Plod weren’t interested at all and in fact wondered why I was bothering to call as they said the complaint should have come from Very as they were the potential victims.

Managed to speak to Jacamo today who confirmed someone has bought things on credit but wouldn’t give me any further info. I had to report it to the police fraud action line to get a crime reference number which they now have and now I just have to wait. Looks like this weekend I will mostly be signing up to credit agencies to see if the little scrotes have signed me up to anything else! Thanks again all.

Good luck OP. Looks like the likeliest nature of the scam is that they send someone round purporting to be a courier to collect the 'sent in error' goods.
They probably got your details from the breach of another website.
I’ve done a search and whoever has done this seems to have had the search done on what may or may not be their own address!! Sadly Google street view suggests the front garden is all patio so I can’t hammer any frozen sausages in (or whatever the current trend on pistonheads is) but I can at least sign them up to some dodgy mailing firms

Sorry to hear about this. Had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. Got in from work with card through door saying parcel had been left with neighbour. Went to collect and was a £800 projector. Ten mins later guy turns up in hiviz and said parcel has incorrectly been delivered, never thought anything and handed over - only noticed he had no van when he was down drive. He had DHL printed cards ( I think he had obtained these from someone who worked there’). About an hour later another neighbour a few doors down bought another parcel to me - this time a phone. Long story short i opened and contacted the retailer that evening. They were next to useless in getting anywhere so I made an official complaint and Held onto the phone until I got some more information. In the end they told me that someone had opened an account in my name and address the previous day and ordered the items. They still could not explain how the account was opened in my name for fraud and bank details provided by the fraudster wasn’t registered at my address (credit files confirmed this). I’ve reported it to Jacamo so will wait to hear what they say but has anyone had something similar? Is someone going to try to kick down my door to get £80 worth of TV stand?? It’s just really bloody odd!!
My advice is to contact CIFAS as mentioned who will put a marker on your credit files noting imposter fraud. And the most important bit of advice (which everyone should do) is contact all the credit agencies and have passwords put on your account for credit applications. Anyone trying to obtain credit in the future would need to provide the password before any credit checks are completed.
