Company owns car, driver avoids prosecution

So Cyclingmikey sends video of Lambo driver using phone to the police and the driver gets away with it as the company that owns the car fails to identify the driver to the police. Company gets fined £1,000, driver no points, no fine.

Doesn't seem fair does it?

Amazing that he did seem to miss the cyclist who went by at the end of the clip, no hands on the handlebar AND using his phone. But he rarely stops cyclists.

I was thinking the other day (unusual I know) but is there anything to stop a person who cannot drive being the registered keeper of a car? Thus many penalties will not have an effect on them should they not disclose who the driver is.

He blocks the progress of the cars, not difficult.

Stopping a cyclist, without physically restraining them is far more difficult, catching and stopping one that's sped past you even more so.

These are the practical challenges.

My main point is the usual false equivalence made between people on push bikes and cars.

Why would you physically restrain a cyclist when all you have to do is step out in front of one and tell them what they're doing wrong? Not difficult, in fact it should be even easier than a car! You seem to think it's fine for a cyclist to break the laws of the road. Or are you for cyclists to have reg numbers on their bikes? Or are you in the "that's not practical" group nonsense?

There's nothing to stop a motorist from spending his days stopping errant cyclists, if he feels so inclined.

1. All the driver’s mates now know the car isn’t his.

2. HMRC know and can check that NI and tax are being paid on the car

3. The police may have a marker on the number as they have video of the driver.

Hope both HMRC and the police catch up with him.
