Can you legally get the registered keeper from anywhere?
Pal had his car stolen and Cctv shows the vehicle they arrived in, it’s taxed
insured and not showing as stolen. The police are too busy to follow it up.

Also what’s the scam being able to track a vehicle on instagram by giving someone the chassis number.
He’s been bombarded after putting the theft up on facebook.

In which case it's 99.999% a cloned plate, so the address won't help anyone. Same as the nicked car will have had a cloned plate put on it within a few minutes.

How is it that I have to produce a driving licence, or passport, and the V5 to get a plate for my car, yet these bds can get any plates they like at will?

You don't, just go on ebay & search for "show plates" you can get anything you want.

You can get them too. Either find a registered place willing to break the rules or buy a show plate from eBay without BS markings etc.

Used to be the same garage that would give an MOT on a decat would be good for a plate for cash and no records. The online show plate places tend to keep records, and require payment by card.

There is so much crime now committed by people using cloned plates.
You would think that the idiots that make the rules in this country would take steps to stop this trade in illegal plates.

But this is the UK - we'd rather screw over the Archbishop of Canterbury for doing 25 in a 20, rather than make a serious impact on violent crime

Or any of the number plate suppliers based in NI. I usually use them as it's less of a faff than mucking about with registration documents.

Ditto here. Plus they're usually cheaper than legit places. Just ordered a pair for £16 from Ebay.

No point - The vehicle used will be on cloned plates. Google it and you may find an advert for the car for sale - That's how they usually find these plates to use.

No point - The vehicle used will be on cloned plates. Google it and you may find an advert for the car for sale - That's how they usually find these plates to use.

Sometimes you underestimate the stupidity of criminals. For instance those who draw attention to themselves by speeding at 110mph on the motorway with a boot full of drugs.

I bought some show plates from ebay earlier this year. Was asked if I wanted them legal, ticked yes and they arrived the next day. BS mark, postcode, everything needed....

www.fancyplates.co.uk will make you anything.
The legislation about proving you have the right to the plate only extends to UK manufacture, not outside UK manufacture, such as in Ireland.

Let’s say it’s illegal to buy any plate without the paper work.
Do you think that it will stop the people committing said violent crime or that they’ll find another way, whether buying a machine to just make the plates for them and other criminals or just stealing plates off cars?

It's not though.

It's only illegal for a UK vendor to sell without paperwork. There is no restriction on a non-UK vendor making plates and selling them to you.

You pay them and they FO with your money. Like a chassis plate has some kind of magic tracker in it and they have alien tech that can geolocate it. There is a part of me that says anyone stupid enough to fall for that deserves to lose their money.
