Good grief ridiculously slow speeding ticket

Well I've seen it all now and I'm not complaining don't get me wrong but the speeding ticket that just arrived in the post seems absolutely ridiculous to me.
I own a quite fast motorcycle and a reasonably fast car and I like to make progress where it's safe to do so. Needless to say I opened the notice of intended prosecution with some trepidation expecting to see a speeding ticket that would worry most people.
Instead I find that the first speeding ticket I've had for over a decade is for doing 26 miles an hour in one of those ridiculous 20 mile an hour zones in London on my regular commute into the office on my motorbike. Like most locals I have got used to these and like everybody else I just chuck my brakes on and then build up speed again once I've gone past them but obviously not quick enough this time.
They are an absolutely pointless exercise in my view and I really don't know why they have them. Most of the time the traffic can't get up to 20 miles an hour because it's nose to tail gridlock. And on the odd occasion when the roads are clear I notice every single driver does 30+ mph but just slows down to 20 for the cameras and then speeds up again.
I have had quite a few speeding tickets in my driving career of 50 years but annoyingly this is the first time I have ever been caught by a static camera.
This is my slowest speeding ticket by some margin and I also got caught many years ago at 102 mph. So a differential between slowest and fastest of 76 miles an hour. Not sure many people will be able to better that? Or want to I guess so maybe not something to be proud of.

Lots of Nottingham is now 20 mph.
I'm about the only person who observes it & I'm constantly being bullied. Makes me chuckle when I'm in my Ranger and Corsas & the like try to get aggressive.
No speed cameras or the like, but if they set something up about 90% of the motorists would be caught.

Assuming your 102mph was in a 70mph zone, it's not a hugely different percentage difference to doing 26 in a 20! i don't really have much sympathy for you OP sorry, especially if the road was in a heavily built up area. a real 26mph would have been reading nearly 30mph on your speedo and imo doing that in a 20mph limit zone is asking for trouble. also doing 26 in a 20 is like doing 52 in a 40 which would also get you done.

Why? cant you manage a steady speed, personally I stick to 20 in 20 knowing I am abiding by the rules, and can't get a ticket, just because others do it, you don't have to join inVipers said:

FWIW I agree with you, but you should have foreseen the predictable responses from the armchair angels "26 in a 20 is like doing 100 in a 70, serves you right, what if it had been a small child/someone's granny/fluffy rabbit?" I love all the “maniac” comments….doing 28 in a 20 is so easy if you are reducing speed in to the limit or pulling away from a stop, it is almost an accidental sneeze on the accelerator.
