Just arrived home too a lovely letter from my local Constabulary.

A NIP for doing 39 in a 30.

Is this likely too result in a court appearance or just points & a fine?

No excuses. I took a short cut to work on a road I haven’t used for 5/6 years.

Thought it was a 40 limit. Turns it wasn’t.

39 in a 30 will be a speed awareness course, if eligible, otherwise 3pts and £100 fine

Assuming England, a speed awareness course may be offered:

https://www.speedingcalculator.co.uk/

Elsewhere may be different.

Makes your wonder how familiar you need to be with a road to be aware of the speed limits in force?

Plenty of places these days where the road was designed for a 40mph limit so everything about it says 40 apart from the speed limit signs.

smile I liked it too. Everything about it says you can drive down there apart from the no entry signs.

Familiar story. My SAC instructor said, drive into another road, then assume it’s 30 unless you have seen signs or until repeater signs confirm otherwise.

Last time I went that way it was a 40 limit. Found out yesterday that the limit dropped from 40 to 30 3 years ago.

It’s a quiet back road which I only used due too roadworks on my usual route.

Like I said, no excuse. fked up. Simple as that.

OP, well worth doing the SAC, very useful section on recognising the speed limit when you haven't seen a sign.

Few grumps in here for accountability and honestly. Bizarre.

OP, hope you get the SAC, few ex 40 limits are now 20 out by me, so seems an easy and honest mistake.
