Mobile safety camera van flashing amber lights
Discussion
Hi , I passed this Mobile safety camera van earlier in the day it was positioned in a 30mph just after coming off a 50mph dual carriageway..I noticed the windows on both front and rear were closed but it’s the first time I have ever passed one with amber flashing lights …I thought it was a sneaky way of trying to make you think it was a road maintenance van ,anyone know if there is a reason for this or were they being sneaky …I have a video but not sure how to upload it

Some of them are fitted with the amber flashing lights so that when they're stopped at the static cameras or putting up temp speed monitoring equipment then the amber lights provide some safety for the operator.den9112 said:
Hi, yes i have seen the ones were they pull up and and change the film in the fixed cameras as we have one close to us that i actual pass on ,y dog walk when they are doing it ...This one did not have any fixed cameras nearby ..
As the second bit says, the other time is if they're putting monitoring equipment out or retrieving it. They put the monitoring equipment out to test new locations or if speed cameras or vans have been requested at a location. It can also mean that they are monitoring speed in the van but not enforcing at that time.i don't agree with them, and don't like sticking up for them, but the reasons are not always because they're being 'sneaky'
