Hey so I have had a letter through the post with an intended notice of prosecution for speeding (unmanned camera) 56mph in a 50mph. The letter is asking for me to confirm I was the driver and it asks me to go online to look at the images of the alleged offence which I have done….well as you can see from the image you can’t hardly see the make of the car let alone the number plate?! They have given the correct reg plate in the letter so I’m assuming they do have decent images so why ask me to view 3 images of such poor quality?
Any advice?

Could you also scan in or take a photo of the NIP (with your personal information blanked out), that'll help us answer The question.

This ^^ Because 56 in a 50 is not normally within the prosecution parameters. 50+10%+2 is 57, which is normally where prosecution starts.

This thread already had a whiff of made up to it, but to see two more identical posts raised in a short period after this one confirms it. Reported along with the other two.
What do you mean it’s made up? I haven’t made up anything!

Apologies my first message was meant to say 57mph not 56mph as can see by the attached pic. Not quite sure why you’re saying I’ve made things up, I’m currently working and having to message in my breaks. Not quite sure why I’d bother coming onto a forum to do that maybe you can enlighten me? I’ve asked for advice that’s it.

No one can post up a speed and ticket any less than the well worn mantra it seems.

Tell them the images are poor quality then ignore all their replies, if they bother.

Now you’ve admitted it was 57 people will believe you.

Those lovely average cameras, all in the name of noise and pollution.

Watch out for the new cameras on Torquay seafront as well curse

Reply within the time limit naming the driver. That the pictures are of poor quality matters not a jot. They've provided a registration number, place, date and time which should be sufficient for the registered keeper to identify the driver.

57 in a 50 should see the driver gets no more than a speed or motorway awareness course.

What is being said is that the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) set up guidelines that most (all?) of the counties they represent agreed. Their replacement body, the Nation Police Chiefs’ Council continued with those guidelines. These guidelines are that the speed limits should not normally be enforced until speed limit plus 10% plus 2mph is reached (legally, it can be enforced at any speed above the limit).
So a 50mph limit will not normally attract enforcement until 57mph is reached.
Many have claimed they have been ‘done’ below this guideline, but none has posted evidence of it. Hence the scepticism around the original 56mph statement.

Won't they know he's checked the image evidence online?

Corrected that for you.

The reason the images are poor is that they are compressed on the public facing website.

Because of the number of people who think and are sometimes wrongly advised that if there is no picture there can be no evidence of speeding. The access to images reduces the occasion of this popular challenge and satisfies curiosity.
You don’t have to look at them if you don’t want to. If you are not satisfied with the quality it makes little difference.
You just need to provide the information you have that either identifies the driver or may lead to that identification. Even a perfect image won’t help in the circumstances.
