Divorce solicitor recommendation

I’m looking for recommendations for a good divorce solicitor in the Liverpool/Manchester area please.

Not quite Liverpool / Manchester but not too far adrift either. Lucy Phipps at Weightmans in Leeds.

Lucy did mine and was very impressive. Highly recommended.

I don’t think that geography plays a big part with Teams and Mobiles available to everyone.

Jo Houston is much closer to Manchester / Liverpool than Winchester, but she does travel, when required.

Works more at the high nett worth / family court pleadings end of the market, rather than straightforward agreed settlements.

You can do the divorce petition part yourself on the government website.

The financial part is a bit trickier, can be done yourself apparently too.
I’m currently in the process but we are amicable and have already discussed finances and the kids, looking at using a single solicitor just to draft up the documents, someone like amicable.co.uk.

We got prices from local solicitors, scary how much they charge!

I don’t have specific recommendations, but the most expensive and well reviewed one you can find. You’ll save in the end.

I'd avoid using one if you can reach an amicable agreement.

Mrs and I parted ways in 2011 but are still on friendly terms, but she decided she wanted a divorce recently and lodged an application for just over £600!

Unless there are big numbers at stake the people who will get the best outcome will be the solicitors.

We went with Amicable. Agreed on our own desired outcome and they just put it in a format acceptable to the court. Cost about £900, on top of the £600ish government divorce fee.

Thats good to hear first hand experience of that company, thanks. Did they want to check any financial stuff of did they just take your word on it all?

JMW represented me for both divorce and a high value personal damages claim, which were intertwined for obvious reasons.

Abigail Bennett was the barrister in matrimonial affairs and was superb. Obviously as others have already said, I'd hope very much that you don't need one!

I looked up Co Op divorce service when the ex walked. It was amicable but I had to agree with various 'reasons' through gritted teeth. This was some 5 years ago so things might have changed since. Fee was £500 + court rubber stamp fee of £500 odd. £1000-ish all in.
Good luck op - even if the process is seamless, these things take a while to heal...
