To cut a long story short my friend was in sunny Skegness on the last bank holiday Monday. He parked his car in a big car park and payed for a ticket, displayed it in the window as normal, went for a day out, came back to the car, bloody parking fine!!!

He decides, rightly so, that he isn't going to have this and decides to fight the council who provided him with the little yellow bit of toilet paper, spurned on my me of course!!.

So he sends a letter to the council saying he had a ticket, it was in the window as normal, encloses a copy of the valid ticket (he was fined 30mins after sticking it in the window and it was valid for 11 hours), also asks why the fine? The council respond by saying that the traffic w****r, sorry I mean warden, said that the ticket wasn't displayed. But he did see a ticket in the car that he couldn't read, probably because it was face down!!!!! Even though it wasn't! Pay up in 7 days or pay £60 instead of £30. The bloke at the council has no sympathy for him and he will have to pay. What utter trash and what a loser!!

Anyway he goes to get some advice. He also calls the council, they say if he doesn't pay bailiffs come round and take stuff to the value of £100+, thats what the fine goes to in a month or so, you know usual tripe. But woman at council does admit that they have no proof that the ticket wasn't on display and also admits that if the traffic w****r, sorry warden, was having a bad day he could do this to numerous people!!

At this time he is really really annoyed so he sends a letter back to the council, with a cheque for £30 saying that he has been treated wrongly. He is paying the fine as it stands now so it won't go to £60. However, he wants the fine refunded otherwise he will seek LEGAL ACTION (key words here) against the council for wrong doing.

Guess what happens, council back down, send him a cheque for £30. They write a letter back to him literally saying that due to the lack of proof and due to his word vs theirs they will pay him back the fine, however he was in the wrong and they shouldn't have to do this. In other words, we will give you your money back but your a t**t, how dare you challenge us!!

Quite ironic really as his girlfriend's mother was in a similar situation recently, got scared by them saying she couldn't do anything about it and paid the £30.

Well sorry this is long winded but we know the moral of the story don't we, fight the b******s and you will win!!!! Don't be scared by their bully tactics, if your right and you know it, fight them back!!

I only wish lots of other people were like my friend, certainly be a lot less dodgy parking fines being paid!!

Everybody should query every fine, it's the only way to break it and get back to sanity.

Quite right too. There is no 'guilty regardless' law in this country. I would have just said I'm not paying the fine, here is a copy of the ticket and a phone photo of it in the window and 'see you in court'.

If everyone did that they might change their bullying tactics as they would be challenged each and every time.

As long as you have a case, fight it!

Not sure - they'd just employ more and more people and put the fines up to cover the cost. It's a self perpetuating job creation scheme.

The ideal thing to do is avoid being fined in the first place - don't go to places that fine you etc. Can Skegness afford to lose visitors? Imagine what would happen to the Scamera partnerships if nobody exceeded the speed limit - their business cases would all collapse.

No, they'd just reduce limits even further, be even sneakier, reduce the tolerances, and probably "recalibrate" their machines.

Perhaps someone should write to the Skegness office for tourism or suchlike. What's the point promoting the place if this is how they treat guests.

I stopped going there a while ago, too many scameras en route

Never mind that, what an f-in dump when you see it,
shop after shop full of chav-tat lousy parking, nothing edible but chips, at a ripoff price, and when we last went,
a drunken pensioner crashing off her scooter, and laying on her side in the ornamental gardens,
oh dear oh dear.

Tip

Most phones have camara capability. Take photo of the parking ticket through your windscreen before leaving your car. Keep for 14 days in case of attempted robery (1961 theft act, demanding money with menaces?)

Standard happening !

I run a courier firm and have this happen all the time, they are trying it on. It is the same when you are trying to deliver and park on single yellows and they hand out a ticket as soon as you have parked, they know that you have got 20 minutes for the delivery, but they also know that most people will pay up without having a go!
