I drive the A90 between Aberdeen and Edinburgh on a weekly basis, so know it pretty well. The section between Aberdeen to Dundee is a classic dangerous dual carriageway - farming country, with lots of side roads from which tractors, HGVs, old duffers etc pull out from. It is refreshing therefore to see a shift in policy from a blanket 50 limit as it used to be, back to 70 with 50 reserved for the odd black spot. Speed cameras are positoned before the most dangerous junctions where people should be slowing down, and they are ones I thoroughly agree with. Coming back up it an hour or so ago I was doing my usual 75-85, and slowing for the junctions when a Hyundai went past me at an estimated 100 or so. It was followed by a V70 Battenburg shortly afterwards who pulled it over in a layby a few miles further on - good to see.

It is also worth noting that this road is where the nutter was clocked doing 155 or so in an M3 while talking on his mobile - makes my blood run cold just thinking about it.

Why what ? Surely you would agree it is good practice to slow down, and on occasion even cover the brake before the approach to a junction with bad visiblity on a fast road ? Unfortunately many drivers don't seem to be able to grasp this. If it takes speed cameras to force them to do this I'm all in favour. Those that are positioned in the middle of a long straight on a single carriageway nsl in prime overtaking territory are however the work of the devil and should be taken away forthwith.

There used to be loads of hidden cameras on the A90, behind signs, but they were moved and made visible 2 or 3 years ago. There are a few approaching junctions, but the road is rural, and well constructed, so the sight lines are very good. If you can't see some duffer about to pull out at 1/4 mile away or more then you need observation training, not speed cameras.

The Forfar stretch has 3 on-grade junctions, and was 50 because of many accidents, but two of the junctions have been grade-separated, and the third made one side of the dual carriageway only, so the limit has been restored to 70 - engineering rather than enforcement.

The Finavon junction is reknowned for accidents too, but has not been grade separated - that would be a good spend of road money rather than taking pictures of people for cash.

Once again your quote.

Your use (overuse?)of the term "dangerous".

There are no dangerous roads anywhere but plenty of dangerous (or poorly skilled) drivers.
As your reply later stated, it isn't the junction that was dangerous BUT A COMBINATION OF POOR OBSERVATION AND WEATHER CONDITIONS.
