Noticed recently that every gatso along the A20 appears to have a black X sprayed on the back of it... any ideas why? I'm hoping it's a code to show the lens has received the same treatment...

Just curious, that's all...

Er, maybe.
The one at Ruxley corner, (last one on A20 heading Coastbound/M25 junction) did.
I saw that, from the front, it was subjected to a fire, and that from the back it looked ok, apart from a black X.
For weeks I saw that this camera was fire damaged. Then last Thursday very late at night, I went pass, just a little to fast (about 59/60 I reckon) and the F**King thing FLASHED!
Next morning I saw that the black X had gone and clearly its been refitted out
I wait for letter in the post

The one near Crittals corner is the only one that seems to be OK. All the others have a black X on the back and the lens covers sprayed out. There is one coastbound near Fiveways that was torched a few weeks back but it still flashes (got me at 47 mph at 4am )but on closer inspection both glass covers are almost opaque so it should be OK.

Cheers guys. I honestly did not know the lens had been sprayed too when speculating in my original post, but I'm glad to see I was right

I forsee sneaky scamera operators "forgetting" to remove the black X when the camera is fixed. If you speed past one and get nicked you won't really have anyone else to blame but yourself.
