Is there real value in detectors?
Discussion
As far as I can tell from information on here and on advertisers' websites, a GPS-based system will only tell you where there are listed camera sites - which will also be identified by roadside signage, though an additional reminder could be considered useful. And a detector will let you know when it detects a laser/camera in action. In which case, it will be too late as your speed will have probably been registered before you will have had time to slow down (if necessary).
I don't believe from what I've read, that a detector will warn you, for example, of a mobile camera that might be pointing away from your direction of travel, so that your speed is measured from behind (I'm ready to be corrected on this) as the beam is rather narrow.
Therefore, is there any real point in buying a GPS/laser detector?

Not sure on the rear-facing issue, however surely anything (within fiscal reason)
that offers, a warning, which you might otherwise miss;
the number of people, angry at having benn caught by either the above,
or, in other legitimate ways,
are all their in SP&L
I'll leave mine on, just a bit longer personally
