Today there was a camera bike ( first ive ever seen in cardiff ) at leckwith road just outside the athletic stadium on the pavement area at around 12:30pm this afternoon. Got rather annoyed as leckwith road that runs past the stadium is easily a 40mph road without question but is classed as a 30mph limit.
The road is very open , clear and straight with flowing traffic.
The police officers bike was not `high vis` just plain white with a rather small camera sign on front above headlight area and his `high vis` biker jacket left a lot to be desired as it was dirty and faded but you wouldnt have seen him as he was stood behind the bike zapping passers by.
I drove past and had to turn around and have a word with him as he had not put up a camera sign down in front of where he was parked and thought he was out of order!.
So i pulled up next to him and questioned the legality of where he was and why he was there quoting ACPO guidlines. He said he was there with no sign up ahead beacause he didnt need one as ACPO is only a guideline and not law and pointed out that he never ` got me ` anyways and seemed that he really didnt want to talk to me.
I told him he never got me because i do not speed! ;-) then questioned why he was at the site, he said he was just doing his job, i said surely u can go somewhere a bit more appropriate to do his ` job `, he said this is where i have to be to carry out my duty. I said there have been ZERO incidents where he was zapping as far as i was aware, he then rambled on about being a biker for the last 22 years and would i rather he be out of a job and on the dole, i then said im a biker too and have been for the last 7 years and didnt see the need for a camera at this point and would rather see him out on the road doing a PROPER job.
At that point he threatened to fine my passenger for not having a seatbelt on so we drove on.
Im still fuming at the downright blatent piss take that he was carrying out!
The fight against this kind of use of cameras and at that all cameras in appropriate places needs to be stepped up!

If that Cardiff Bib wants to come down Lake Road East, I'll make the tea (might even go and get donuts).
He's more than welcome outside my door and he can wear any vest he likes.
That was a bit harsh of you, there are some serious p-takers, both speed and verbal, drivers in this town.
We all moan about the scammeras, but Bib on a bike is probably the real thing, a trafpol. What you rather he did, ride shotgun escort to a Billy Liar or for the mayor of Fishguard.

Yeah. Help find me resources and I'll step it up. I promise.

www.safespeed.org.uk/appeal.html

The appeal now stands at about £17,700. Still £2,300 short of the original target.
