Hi

Long time lurker and like what I saw, was hoping if I could benefit from the advice here.

Driving up the M4 from Bristol a couple of Friday's ago, I came over the brow of a rise in the motorway to discover to my horror, a scamera van on the bridge! I am sure that I was doing under 85MPH, the van's window was open and something was pointing out. However I do not know if it got me and it is now exactly 14 days since the offense.

Is there any chance that they could have been shooting fish in a barrel on the other side of the carrageway (cars going the other way) or do i need to sweat this out for a while longer?!

Cheers

Can't help with the cameras,
other than to say, last i'd heard they had made a discreet exit following protests,
but others will be able ot offer better advice.

Hello and welcome anyway

Commute from J16 to J18 and back every day and I only see them occasionally, in fact they're extremely unusual now. Saw one a couple of weeks ago and that was the first one (that I saw) in months!

Although who's to say when the parasites decide its time to have another crackdown period on this stretch of the '4?

Cheers guys and thanks for the welcome!

My only hope is that he was pointing at the other carrageway or he was knocking one out in the back of the van. Judging by the nature of the average scameraman (having met two in person ) I would say the latter is more likely and I am surprised he wasnt blind by age twelve

I have seen quite a lot of APNR action between Chippenham and Swindon. You can tell if there are lots of cop cars and bikes around it is APNR otherwise it is Scamera scum.

Hi Lightstepper,

Unfortunately they do still scam the M4 regularly, I see them every week.

Can you remember seeing scam markings on the side of the van? If not it was ANPR.

There was interesting occurance recently where I was travelling home on the M4 and was about to get off at Chippenham. As I approached the last bridge before the exit, there was a man in yellow jacket with a couple of camera's on tripods.

Imagine my suprise when as I and another motorist got really up close to the bridge, the chap started waving. I can only assume that he was on the ANPR system.

It was up there on Friday lunchtime the week before last. I hadn't driven that way for ages, so it was a bit of a surprise, but I'm pretty sure I was under 80 mph and my Road Angel's laser alert (the one that tells you you've been caught) didn't go off.

Funny how the van is placed to catch people accelerating after the roadworks, not to catch the morons who drive through the roadworks without dropping their speed.

To confirm - it was definately a wiltshire scamera van and not an ANPR.

Welcome to the mad house!

I had exactly the same experience at the same-ish speed and heard nothing. I have a sneaky suspicion that they have a 90+ trigger speed.

Good luck!
