Couple of questions on MOT's.
1)Is driving a vehicle without an MOT to a pre-booked MOT appointment still allowed?
2)Is it O.K to drive an MOT failure from the MOT station to your home/garage etc.?
3)What is the penalty for driving without an MOT. Is it an endorsable offence?
Just checking, as the rules may well have changed & I was asked these questions today.
Thanks.

As far as I know (by no means an expert!)
1. Yep, no probs
2. Not unless it had a previously valid MOT (eg you were taking it in before the end of the previous one)
3. I think its just a fine, not sure how much though?
DVD, has it changed then? Many years ago I got stopped and given a producer. A couple of days later I got the docs out to take to the local nick only to find the MoT had run out about a week before getting stopped. Rushed of and got the car tested and went in to produce a ticket issued about 4 days after I'd been stopped. I told the copper behind the desk (yes, it was so long ago they didn't have civvy desk staff) that I couldn't find my old ticket but knowing it hadn't got long to run I'd had it tested anyway. His reply was that the offence is 'failure to produce' and not 'not having one'. I had produced a ticket so was OK.

Had a feeeling that it's ok to drive to a pre-booked MOT but that there are distance limitations - isn't it something like nearest to your home or such like?
Kind of. IIRC it just has to be "reasonable", i.e. it wouldn't be reasonable to drive from Land's End to John o'Groats for a straightforward MOT test, but it could be considered reasonable to go, say, from Exeter to Bristol so that the MOT & associated work could be done by the nearest specialist for your car.
The first time I imported a car from France I checked with DVLA to see what needed doing to register it. They told me that it should be taken for a pre-booked MoT at the 'earliest opportunity' it arrived in UK. He then went on to suggest that if I wanted to use my local tester in Cambridgeshire, I should book the test for a Monday morning and bring the car over on a Sunday ferry.
