the problem is, they're not neccessarily being cut, the govt now want to look at alternative methods of speed reduction - they'll still chose cameras, as they make money!!!!

I am expecting that all towns will be reduced to a 20Mph limit as some "safety scheme"

Cameras provide jobs for the otherwise unemployable and there will be a sting in the tail for places where a camera can't make much money...you'll probably get more speed humps, kerb-outs, islands and other congestion and pollution-creating ideas.

The fools who do this have to look as if they're still doing something.

I've got no problem with that.

I recognise that might be a different opinion to most PHers.

What really gets my goat is speed control on motorways and
dual carraigeways. IMHO plain revenue generation.

I have, the problem isn't speed, it's observation and anticipation.

So they have saved hundreds of lives? 3500 - 3530= ? Ah sorry they have been saving lives in a parallel universe and these people are made of anti-matter so we can never meet them but we can prove they exist mathematically. Anyway so this very succesful policy of speed cameras is now to be stopped? Erm why?

Anyway the good news is we only have a finite number of them to smash now.

ITN website says (worringly) all local authorities are to review speed limits on A and B roads by 2011..
You can imagine what that will mean... blanket limits??

One great comment that came out of this story on the BBC was that they have run out of places to put them! (classic)

Am I the only person who read the title "Speed camera cuts" with an extra n in the last word. Did a double-take and realised my error!

Definately Freudian.
