Heading out to Tenby on Boxing Day from Jct 5 on the M4, what's the deal with the scameras on the M4? Are there still those average speed ones through Swindon way? Or can I set the cruise control to above 70 without fear of a Crimbo FPN?

Don't forget the occasional vans:

before the tolls on the Severn bridge,

on the bridge after the Magor turnoff,

on the bridges west of Cardiff.

Big leaf on half the number plate should sort it out though.

Welcome to wales..... yes... you are welcome to it.

The main bridges they use are just before the tolls in the 50 zone after the new bridge, and then just before the Bridgend/Pencoed junction (j33 iirc)

I almost got lasered by a van about 3 weeks back, just past jct 16 (swindon area) sitting on a bridge.

They are there - be careful

Think you 50 mph Gatso you're refering to is just before (east) of Swansea on the elevated twisty section near Port Talbot - can't remember the Junction number but it's about 38 to 40.

Also a 50 mph Gatso on the other side to catch you on the way home.

Do not forget the van that sits on the bridge just prior to (westbound) J35 (pencoed), this does face both east and west bound, but mainly west bound as it suits the long bend meaning people in the outside lane are less likely to see it before getting nabbed.

Welcome to hell (I think the saying goes)!

If you want my advice speeding on the M4 anywhere in South Wales is a risky business. I have seen scamera vans on most over bridges at some point, eventhough officially they are only at these 8 locations:-

Severn Bridge Toll Plaza (50mph that one)
3km East of J24
5km East of J32
1km East of J32
1km East of J33
2km East of J35
At J36
2km East of J37

The message is clear. If you want to go fast, do it on B-roads.
