At the moment there are no penalties for accelerating to the posted limit ASAP. So whats required is a car which can gets its power down without a sustained loss of traction/directional control.

I was pulled over for spinning the wheels in the wet, getting to 30, and warned of possible 'reckless driving'.

I dont think its daft. If your wheels are spinning you obviously have no traction on that particular tyre. Dangerous.

S59 could cover it.

On the isle of man don't they have an offence of "driving furiously" which i think covers this sort of thing?

In what way dangerous? How about if you were not moving at the time, i.e. 0mph. Surely that would be perfectly safe as "speed kills"?

It's "riding furiously" I think and was originally aimed at horse riders galloping through towns, but has been applied to student cyclists being foolish in Cambridge (and elsewhere i think).

The laws in New Zealand are a bit nannyish / thick / yokel as are their application. Australia is similar and I fear that we may be following...

So in snow and ice, when everyone is spinning furiously, we are ALL breaking the law?

What if you hit a diesel patch and momentarily lose traction?

What if you drive a TVR and it just loses traction because, well, its a TVR?

Seems like spinners are not such a daft idea after all. "Spun the wheels, me, no, you must be mistaken ocifer. Look. Dey is still spinnin man!"
