Reg plate on another car
Discussion
A chap at work is in the process of being done for travelling through London in a bus lane in his BMW. Meanwhile he was at work with me in Hampshire, Afer driving his Ford to work. So obviously it was the wrong car but they still expect him to pay the fine. They won't answer mails unless automated letters and they won't talk on the phone. Only way is to make appointment and costs £25 to see the evidence. Appeal proceedure is pay up then appeal which sort of admits your guilt when its clearly not your car or you driving. Any suggestions please.

He just written letter saying that not going to pay and legal advice will be sort if another automated letter comes through in response.
tell him to listen to Bliarout's advice.
How long before congestion charging muppets are writing about penalty charges for contravention thereof.
Those muppets send the baillifs in even when they already have police and DVLA evidence of cloning. He must get his vehicle status as a cloned car recorded on the system and DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm simply reiterating your advice

that seems a bit off to me, they accuse you of doing something, then if you want to see the evidence, you get charged for it!
It will be to dissuade you from asking for pics just for the hell of it.
However, surely he must have a legal right to see the evidence, especially if it goes to court?
Any idea what area of London, as when I got done for this [*] the picture of the car was part of the letter that came through.
[*] In my defence, it really ticks me off when folk drive in bus lanes - so much so that MrsV6 just laughed when the letter came through to her (car registered in her name) as she just knew it wouldn't be right! As it happens, I was caught bang to rights... whilst reading road signs I accidentally drove approx 10ft into a bus lane and pulled out as soon as I realised. The camera operator caught me literally in this 1st 10ft; the picture showed the lane starting in line with the car's rear wheels
The pic was clearly a still from video, but interestingly there were no more pictures available, i.e. the ones that would have shown me immediately leaving the bus lane...
A classic case of infringing the letter of the rules whilst upholding the spirit thereof and getting penalised regardless.

Well they don't want too many people seeing the evidence do that? Imagine how much that'll reduce their profits by!
I wonder why this kind of mistake doesn't get the "hilarious" treatment like the 85mph tractor story:
Last week Mr Smith from Suburbia found himself out on the streets when his house was repossessed following the loss of his income due to having his driving licence revoked in the middle of last year.
"The lady on the telephone thought it was highly amusing when I told her it wasn't me because it was a different car and I was never in that location", Mr Smith chuckled, "But between sniggers she said that they couldn't possibly consider my case because there was no tractor, bus or 100mph milkfloat involved." She went on to admit that sometimes mistakes are made with these particular vehicles, but in this case because it was possible my car broke the law, it did break the law. "We both saw the funny side in the end", Mr Smith concluded, as he collected his few remaining posessions into his Tesco bag.

I hope you don't mind those of us speeding (uhoh) through them whilst everyone else sits with their thumbs up their asses because they never bothered to read the blue sign telling us when the lane is active or not

Engineering a situation that results in me fighting to prove my innocence against an utterly flawed juggernaught of a system... not my idea of fun, but each to their own
