One for Paul, perhaps?

Was struck by the breathtaking irony of two stories that appeared in the Chester Chronicle this week:
"Speed cameras 'are not the solution'" (note the reporter's and the Scamera partnership comments rubbishing the headline's claims).

Followed on the very next page by:
"79 motorists died on county roads in 2005" (a dozen more than in 2004.)

second article said:
Cheshire Police are continuing to work with Cheshire County Council, Halton and Warrington Borough Council and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to educate road users on the dangers they face on a daily basis when travelling on Cheshire, Halton and Warrington's roads.
Isn't it telling that the Safety Camera Partnership are not taking part in educating road users of the road dangers?

I'm aware, thanks. I worked with Robert Lim on it a bit before he contacted the paper. Nasty to see the scammer spin applied isn't it? Makes me fume.

how many road cops do you see in Cheshire ??
not as many as you did, why because they are deployed in other areas, no presence = poor driver behavior = increase in accidents
Liebchen - Mad Doc came across this in "Manchester Evening News" - early December. They have been pared to barest skeleton.

The way it's laid out in the newspaper is quite striking, in a way that doesn't come out from the weblinks.
The speed camera story is the top half of a right-hand page (19), and the stats have black squares next to them, so they stand out.
The road deaths story is on the next right-hand page (21) in exactly the same position.
