Well she will not get any sympathy here. The Police will prosecute anybody for perjury who claims that they were not driving at the time of an offence [even a lowly speeding offence] and are found to have been so doing, she obviously knew the risks involved.

But in an attempt to keep her job she appealed, claiming that a man she met in the pub - whom she could only identify as Bill - had been behind the wheel. Her ploy worked, her conviction was quashed and she was reinstated.

Amazing I wonder how many time a Policeman has heard the story ' I got it from a bloke in the pub, his name was Bill' when pursuing a line of enquiry. I must remember it as it obviously works, but wonder why was 'Bill' investigated after she was reinstated and not as part of her appeal?

Good to see that the police investigating the case and the appeal were suspicious enough to investigate the 'story' properly, and that justice was done. Lying in court, especially about something as serious as this deserves a custodial sentence. As a police officer she had no excuse about knowing what would happen when she contrived a pre-meditated lie, and based an appeal on it.

The scary thing is, if a 'bad egg' like that was willing to create a story and lie in court, what about other evidence she has given under oath against defendants?

I wonder whether they checked her insurance at the time, to see if 'Bill' (amazing that he apparently does exist!) was covered to drive her car?

Or did she say that he told her it would be OK as he had DOC cover.

"It weren't me yer 'onner, it were Bill from 't pub."
"Oh right then, case dismissed."

Yep, no sympathy here at all. Brings the reputation of the Police Service down and if I had been the judge she'd have got more than 6 months.

Thick enough to drive whilst drunk.
Thick enough to then crash her car.
Thick enough to lie in court.
Thick enough to then admit it.

How tough are the exams to join the force these days?

The tabloids were full of this a bit back... und claimed easier than 11 plus exams at most basic section (the one which allows the really thick to get at least one right ... )

Und zero sympathy either. Police people are supposed to set good example und we expect those who enforce laws against us to be at least decent und honest in their own character.

But ist one in Manchester who drive with no insurance, hits und runs, gets girlfriend to to take blame (she grasses on him) - but he kept his job..... he was needed to keep some pee-ceee figure perhaps.... was a foreign chap.... go figure....

Was in "Manchester Paper" und think I posted up story at time und general concensus from BiB on Board was that they would not like to work with this person as not very trustworthy as colleague....

The exams are a piece of pi$$. Most applicants (perhaps 70% I've heard) don't even get to sit them and are weeded out at the initial papersift. The hardest parts for most applicants are the competancy-based questions and role plays.

She couldn't have been that thick; she managed to fool the appeal court and those involved in the process.
We should be examining why this happens to someone with such a promising career. What a waste; if it was my daughter I'd be distraught.

Promisng career ! :giggle: maybe in the good old days of 'he fell down the stairs m'lud'

She is in a position of trust and infulence. Im pleased the police have kicked her out which is the right thing to do. She only has herself to blame.
Responsibility for your own actions.
