Not motoring related, but I wonder if I should lodge a complaint.

I live in an end of terrace house with an alleyway at the side to access mine and neighbours gardens.

The other day I saw 2 "yoofs" creeping down the alleyway and vault a fence belonging to a quiet family (who were out). They looked so dodgy they could have been wearing black & white tops and carrying a bag that said "SWAG" on it.

So, I called the Rozzers (from landline). The phone was answered instantly by the BT operator and I requested police. The operator connected me to a service that had a message that read "we are currently experiencing delays in excess of 2.5 minutes and suggest you call the backup number". The operator told me to continue holding and tried another number, which rang... and rang, and rang, and rang.

The call was answered by a police handler approximately 6 minutes after I started. I said I believed a robbery was in progress, gave my details, etc..

About a minute after that a van appeared, another minute and 3 more cars, about 5 mins after that a van with a dog & 2 handlers and then a helicopter!

They didn't find the scrotes despite chucking everything they could at it. I couldn't help but feel that the guys on the ground never really had a chance to catch them if the call centre is such a mess.

Now as far as I know they were scared off and a broken fence was it so no harm, but *IF* I really needed emergency services I'd be b*ggered.

I don't want anything from them, but would it be worth lodging a complaint to at least appear on the stats under "people who think we take too long to answer the emergency phone".

Seperately, I think I'll write to my MP asking for a change in the law so its legal to shoot scrotes on sight.

You should complain - just imagine if they'd been having a go at your cars, I very much doubt you'd be wanting to wait that long for a response!

2 or 3 years ago I called the police when I saw a guy "bumming" the front door of the house opposite in, the system was busy for a few minutes and by the time I got through and the police had come, the guy had taken what he wanted and walked/broken into a jog/run down the road and dissapeared.

Without that delay he'd have been in cuffs.
