Coach Tragedy in Germany
Discussion
Reports filtering in on this.... it seem twl British children have died in coach crash in Germany - A4 Autobahn - Cologne.
It seems that one coach had broken down und pulled into hard shoulder. HGV collided with the coach und then a second bus taking children from another school to another Austrian ski resort ran into rear of both vehicles...
This happened in early hours of this morning... und have not yet looked for a link...
Very sad ... und thoughts und condolences to schools (believed to be from Norfolk area) und their parents - especially those who have lost their sons.

my missus just went skiing on a coach trip from cologne last night....
bbc news
news report women saying 'there has been heavy snow in germany' - there's zero snow in cologne, that wasn't the cause
seems the bus was on the hard shoulder, maybe sticking out onto the carriageway, large trailer truck hit it and spun out into the road, 2nd bus hit that

Amazing how many accidents are caused by vehicles stopped on the hard shoulder.
This is very near to me there are a lot of roadworks on the A4 around Kerpen and even with out roadworks there is not much hardshoulder to talk of ,,, i would not like to be broken down in my MINI let alone a coach

I'm a girl but don't tell!! more importantly, HOW do people drift in to the hard shoulder?!!
I have to say, hand on heart, that in 7 years @ 40-50,000 miles diving per year at all times of day and night and al types of weather that I have NEVER EVER even come close to "drifting" on to the hard shoulder.
Smacks of seriously dangerous driving...

Or sleepy driving ,, which is the same i guess
A serious point here Marki, I used to use the Dover - Zeebrugge or Oostende ferries some years ago......why? Well, living here in the NW of England I have a considerable journey to make on a Friday evening to Dover. Those ferries USED to offer cabins, and 4 hrs sleep was possible + breakfast before dis-embarking.
In their drive for PROFIT the ferry companies cut these services and concentrated them (when the tunnel opened) on the Dover Calais route......Great! I work all day....Drive 300 miles.....1 to 1.5 hrs later I'm set down in Europe! No sleep. And the return is worse......
If ever a ferry company made a business mistake it was this.....fechin' idiots!
Catering ONLY for the South East, they delivered tired worn out drivers to the dis-embarking shores.
I'm sorry to say it in the light of events, but I'm NOT surprised......
Need less to say, I don't use that route anymore.....and THIS accident is exactly why!
