was coming out of Guildford this evening on a dual carriageway. Two lanes going 15-20 mph with a bit of stop go. Along comes a Trafpol all the bits going trying to get through.

All I can say is, I'm glad it's not me, I couldn't do that job, it would make me SO ANGRY! People take an eternity to spot the rucus behind them and move over.

Perhaps that's why I am such a crap driver!!

Had the complete opposite the other day. Very busy, two lane traffic lights that go into one the other side of the junction, Blues and twos coming up behind very fast. Guy on the outside lane looked accross, caught my eye, a moment of understanding, I stopped and he pulled over in front of me. BiB on their way, all fast, safe and no drama.

Very refreshing for a change.

I must admit, the vast majority of drivers are good as gold and do pretty much what you what want them to. There are the small minority who make the blood boil!! I never let it get to me though, that's when the old 'red mist' starts and mistakes start being made....

that's good to know! It often seems to me when I watch that it takes people ages to get out the way!

I have found a way to be excpetionally observant out the back. I use a second mirror which gives me double-strength out the back observation. Of course there are a few moments of inattention while I put my makeup on and when I don't have any hands left for steering, but on the whole it's a net positive effect!

Thanks for that! The mental image of a guy with blood red lipstick and black round the eyes mascara will stay with me forever...

You get used to it and nowadays I just laugh or shake my head. Back in the days I was writing about policing I wrote this:-

Worse than that, my missus was driving home the other day. Clear road, she is behind a car. A police car is coming the other way, on the other side of the road, with the lights and sirens on, but there is nothing in front of him so he's fine. However, the car in front of the missus decides for some bizarre reason to pull over.

I do my best to get out of the way, but some of the police driving I've seen recently borders on the suicidal - like cutting into the opposite lane on blind bends, which seems to be a particular favourite of Volvo V70s in West Sussex.

Best one I saw was last week, a car was infront of me, and then there was a police van, with another car infront of him...

..Van's blues and twos came on, and it overtook the car infront...

....and the car behind slammed his brakes on and pulled over

eek, so there's me and df really getting to a concensus with few differences left on the subjects of cameras and speed limits and he gets to know my ghastly secret. How will I ever succinctly and eruditely put my point again?

Echo that. Welcome, Brian! The more BiB there are on here the better IMHO. As HW says, it often gets heated in here, but it's still the best motoring forum on the internet bar none. Very good blog BTW, I like your style
