Should I shop a taxless car ?
Discussion
I've spotted a K reg Clio showing a 2004 tax disc, with slightly but not completely flat tyres in a housing development cul-de-sac which I'm pretty sure is a public highway. Should I shop it to the DVLA ? The only reason I'm swithering is that in the past I've had a car on the public highway with an out of date tax disc for a few weeks. The reason being I couldn't get the damn thing started to drive it in for it's MOT, I just needed a few weeks to source and fit a new starter motor. I'm very glad that some officious busybody didn't shop me in that period, but 2 years is taking the piss is it not ?
Two years is taking the piss.
There used to be a cavalier that parked opposite my driveway (making it bloody awkward to reverse out) that was equally out of date. It was driven every day and parked back there each evening - my house is at the bottom of a very quiet cul de sac. I reported it to the local cop shop as untaxed and an obstruction. Next morning, it had a ticket on the windscreen - I saw it again, still untaxed, twice before it vanished and never came back.

Yeah, grass him up!!
If you go onto the RAC site you can see when it was last registered, he could have put the new disc behind the old one (I've done it!)
I got done once casuse on the way back from passing it's MOT I stopped in town to get my tax disc, when I got back to the car the Traffic warden was writing out a ticket for no tax even though I had it in my hand, I seem to remember her making it a failiure do display properly!!

If its being used then its almost definately uninsured, so you should report it.
If its just parked and its not a nuciance or anything then I would leave it.
He might have declaired it SORN and not have anywhere else to park it, reporting him might cause him major grief and not benefit anybody.

Absolutely!
I was 6 days late this month as I was out of the country on work for a week and coudln't get to the Post Office before this...
...but really 2004!!!
Even if it's SORN'd it shouldn't be there - Statutory OFF ROAD Notification.
Report it, it's probabaly uninsured and out of MoT too. Got the "hit by uninsured driver" T-shirt!
Threatened to shop one of the guys I work with for driving his car for three months without taxing it, it's not like he couldn't afford it.

I would tell the owner that I intend to notify the police in two days time, that gives him a chance to sort it.
Hopefully then problem solved without involving police.
Don't know him/her it is just a road I sometimes use as a shortcut (on foot, it is a cul de sac, but has a footpath at the end). I agree about sorn, when one of my cars died I declared sorn and parked it on a mate's drive for a while, till I could get it fixed. Not that hard a thing to do.
