Just reading in the paper (Daily Mail - I didn't buy it BTW) about a farmer who got so fed up with the lack of Policing in his village that after they failed to move 800 ravers off his farm, failed to investigate his mothers door being kicked in etc etc that he eventually bought the police farce a brand new Range Rover out of his own money on the condition that it could only be used within a 10 mile radius of his farm.

Grrrr. This country is sinking so fast I can feel the heat from the earths core.

Police have no power to just 'move' people in such ways. It will have been for him to attend Court and seek action that way. Armed with this, the Police can then stand by to assist him move the people on. There is a similar problem with the travelling community setting up shop in fields/car parks etc. Police can't simply 'move them on'...

You mean they DID investigate, and probably updated him with the result. Because they didn't put together a lynch-mob and nick anyone young in a hoodie, they are seen as doing 'nothing'.

Another pointless rant by someone who has no idea about 'the system' (the farmer i mean, not you). It would help if you can provide a link, otherwise people can't really comment too much on it......

Really? I thought the Criminal Justice Bill of a decade or so ago allowed such events to be dispersed?

Unfortunately I can't provide a link as its a newspaper, not web news. But, I mean, if 800 people or even 8 people descended on YOUR house you'd expect the Police to do something about it wouldnt you????

If i remember correctly, that was in relation to pre-planned operations, where Police were given various powers to stop vehicles on the way there, move people away from the intended area etc. I'm happy to be proved wrong if someone can post some info on it though.

I didn't mean for my post to sound like a 'rant', i'm just no fan of the British press that's all, least of all the Mail...

Absa-bloody-lutely. Unfortunately, the people of Britain can't have it both ways. On one hand someone will complain of revellers invading their field. The revellers nicked moved on/nicked/slapped etc. The revellers then get legal aid to challenge anything plod does, gets dragged through Court for the next two years. They then win a great 'civil liberties' victory and sue the Police. It's a vicious circle. Sorry, in rant mode tonight!

If anyone is that interested, you can read the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 1993 here, and then try and work out what they mean:

Farmers are always moaning about how little money they have, and complaining about supermarkets, but they all seem to have new landrovers, and now they can afford to buy a RangeRover for anyone that wants one.

First thing I'd do is stop the money (for virtually everything). You can still challenge Plod if you want, get him prosecuted etc., but you *can't* have any money unless you can prove an *ACTUAL* loss. If a BiB smashes up my car, that's an actual loss. My hurt feelings aren't.

Half of the stupidities are brought in to stop people being sued. (The other Half are Government requirements). Despite virtually everyone saying "it's the principle not the money", it's the money, encouraged by lawyers who want their cut of it.

Everyone loses with this stupidity, they should be told to f*** off and grow up.

A cop here was paid £30k (he wanted £400k!) for hurt feelings over his "treatment" as a homosexual copper. The £400k was because "he didn't think he'd be able to return to work" hence earnings for the next 15 years. No-one actually *did* anything, it's not like he was beaten up, even *then* it's ridiculous.

There's an increasing trend in schools along the line of : I was difficult at school (i.e. told the teachers to f--- off and truanted, hit people etc. difficult), you (the Council) didn't deal with my special needs properly. If you had I would have become (say) Chairman of ICI, so therefore you are responsible for the difference in what I earn and what I should be earning. Drivel.

Same thing ; I am not responsible for what I do. If I murder someone, it's your (Police) fault for not stopping me, it's your (Doctor) fault for not diagnosing my psychiatric disorder, it's your (Teacher) fault for not getting me a PhD in Biochemistry so I had to turn to crime. But no way is it me being a thug.

It's worse than that. You try and go and stand outside downing street with some friends to express your opinion, or outside the labour party conference and your will soon find yourself moved on.

I've wondered about this, about what I'd do if I found squatters in my house or on my land.

I know that if you used physical force in this fecked-up country you'd be the one that got in trouble but what about if you just went down, every couple of hours, and threw buckets of freezing cold water all over them?

Nah, a fine mixture of slurry would be more effective.

I once heard that my father-in-law's boss had a small house that he owned and was renovating, some squatters moved in and claimed squatters rights.

Being a builder type he rounded up a few of his heavy workmen and went to the house to "sort things out" he didn't threaten anyone he simply told them that he was going to remove the roof in order to replace it at a later date as part of the renovation.

Funny enough the squatters moved out.

Start bricking up all the windows and doorways - I expect that would soon make them decide to leave. Or if not, once finished turn off the water supply and wait a few weeks...

I was once sent to deal with an encampment of Travellers who began to get their water from a school playing field stand-pipe. The trouble was the school's water was metred and the travellers were getting their free water at a cost to the school. Naturally the travellers wouldn't give a toss at being told this and asked to stop. So I gave it some thought and came up with an alternative strategy.....

I went into the travellers' camp and spoke to their nominated leader (They only ever have a first name or nickname don't they) and informed him that "the school was anxious that the travellers were using water from their underground waste water tanks for their consumption. The water was collected from baths and sinks and intended for watering the playing fields. Naturally the school had no problem if they wished to go on using it but felt obliged to warn them of it's questionable drinking quality?"

They decided to stop helping themselves and the problem was resolved.

Hope none of them are reading this though.
