Was it a Warrent Card?
Discussion
I'll be a little sketchy on details just because you never know who's reading but will include enough detail to make a call on.
I was driving on a busy UK motorway over the last few days and while in road works sticking strictly to the 40mph limit as there were cameras on it on was tailgated alarming closely then over taken on the inside and cut up in a dangerous manner causeing me to brake by a tatty 8yr old plus non descript saloon car with a single occupant and a baby seat in the front. Wrongly so I admit I took exception to this and instead of just pulling back and letting them get on with it I sat a safe distance behind them and waited till the motorway opened up, the car that cut me up increased in speed to three figures and didn't move over to the empty middle lane, so still being a little p1ssed off I over took on the inside and then pulled back out, this was not excessively dangerous as I had considerably more power and was able to pull it off swiftly and safely (all be it wrong and I should have been a bit more mature) anyway matey is now behing me and going MAD, I mean flashing headlight lights, waving arms and generally appearing irrate, I slowed to a more conservative motorway cruising speed and merrily sat there with him behind me and all 3 lanes now busy. So as we slow in traffic he swerves into the middle lane and pulls along side me, but without enough room to undertake, he is now pushing a plastic id type card against his window and shouting that I should pull over, I merrily mouthed "go away" or words to that effect and carried on, he then proceeds to tailgate me still flashing and indicating I should pull over and waving his plastic card for atleast 10-15 miles untill I reach my exit which I happily took but which he chased me up, this time with his window down plastic card in hand and extended at me as I stopped at the slip road roundabout and shouting "Pull Over" I still merrily ignored him knowing that even a police officer cannot pull over a moving vehicle without being in uniform or atleast having blue lights going, infact I waved back my own little plastic card from the Dennis The Menace Fan Club held only by my middle finger
(it wasn't but if anything comes of this I'll ask what I was waving and if he can't answer then how was I to know if his was a warrent card or not) he continues for 2 more roundabouts before giving up and going back towards the motorway. Now I know I reacted not in the best way and agrivated the situation but at the end of the day he pulled the illegal undertake first, he was speeding and he was acting aggresivly and I'm pretty damm sure that if it came to a day in court I'd be ok as it would be his word against mine, I would denie everything, admit nothing, and make counter allegations but what should I expect ???? assuming he was infact real plod and not just some chancer waving a tuffty club card.
Oh yes it might have been very immature but it did make me laugh as I thought he was going to burst at one stage....and before anyone starts saying he may have been undercover or tailing another card, I don't think so, my take is that he was an off duty t0sser in his own car hence baby seat in front and the age of it, and was simply being as big or a bigger arse than I was admittedly being or rather allegedly being

.You did the right thing. Whoever they are, if they are that irate and that persistant then I would have thought that if you did pull over for a conversation that violence toward you is more than a possibility.
The guy was obviously using whatever card he had to make you sh*t youself in an effort to get you to pull over. He obviously knew you were not going to get close enough to read it!
The moral of the story is, remember lane discipline and how people get p*ssed off with you if you dont!

If it really was plod, and they were that keen to stuff you, they'd have called for uniformed asistance on their mobile with one hand on the wheel and one eye on the road while their red mist permitted cool judgements on the road in keeping with accepted safe practice for driving.
Or, it was in fact a dickhead who wanted to mix it after you did unto him what he did unto you, but due to him having lightweight genitalia and 5h1t for brains he couldn't hack it.

I had a similar middle lane numpty (65mph) on the M4 this morning took exception to me "undertaking" him.

Happens to me about every time I am on an empty motorway. I will always approach on the inside lane, so the driver has the chance to see me and move over. I then overtake all the way out to the outside lane, and as soon as I am passed move straight back to the inside lane, to make the mavouvre bloody obvious.
Even after all this, I would say that after I watched the driver in my mirror, less than 10% actually move over after taking the 'hint'.
I have even seen a trafpol car come up behind someone in a similar situation and sit for at least ten seconds behind them with the blues on and flashing them before they realised and moved over.
I do despair. Though they will probably get cheap insurance because they are great drivers and were doing 5mph less than the limit...
Ted's hamsters OK? - "denied access" to me then the post went south???
Anyway here we go again...

T5SOR said:In theory who knows (BiB apart) but in practice not so...was once test driving a tasty motor which was sufficiently tasty for the dealer to stick the trade plates a bit too flat on the rear parcel shelf rather than risk the paint job. Noticed a battered old ford tailing me for a few miles but thought nothing of it, then at a junction they did the Bodie and Doyle routine, swerving out then cutting me off at 45 degrees blocking my exit at the T. Two scruffy buggers run out, salesbot hits the central locking key, then the tramps produce genuine warrant cards and stick them against the glass, which I'm pleased to say they left in one piece. Turns out they were only cid and bobby after all. Matey got a bollocking for not displaying trade plates properly and I got a pat on the back for sticking broadly to the speed limits in a major league licence loser. True to form obviously.

Mel - if thats a true BiB I'll vote Conservative!
Lets face it, he drove like an absolute tw&t, so the chances are he's a salesman in real life. They all carry little cards, and every time someone does unto them, they wave it out of the window. They think it's clever, which indicates their IQ.
You were wrong (and you obviously know it) to drive the way you did. It's not your place to try and teach dick heads a lesson. But no way is this an Old Bill. Keep us informed, but nothing will come of this. Just remember though, one day you will do this to a 'real' Gangster, who will not stop chasing you.....then you're fikked.
So don't do it.

father in law is a copper - plain clothes - and he will wave you down on a motorway and stop you with his warrant card if he believes you are a danger to others (if he's on duty in a unmarked car and has a colleague is in the car). he will give yuo a telling off, and a FPN if yuo are really unlucky.
once stopped a woman who was sat in the middle lane of an empty motorway at 85 mph with her mobile in one hand and a hairbrush in the other combing her hair!!!!

True. Given the amount of psychos there seem to be nowadays, and the amount of illegal guns, deliberately p'ssing off other drivers who've already acted aggressively seems to be an increasingly dangerous hobby.
At the very least they'll take your plate and keep an eye out for your P&J. Worse, they'll find out where you live/work. Worse, as BFF says, they'll keep on until you have to stop.
Just a couple of things to add
Section 163 Road Traffic Act, 1988 : A person driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road MUST STOP the vehicle on being required to do so by a CONSTABLE IN UNIFORM failure to do so OFFENCE.
I am only going to mentionthe general power of CONSTABLE as there are others with similar powers i.e. Veh Exam at D of T check and even Community Safety Officers.
If he was that incensed and a real Plod then he may look at following the incident on but could only do so by service of a written notice for Dangerous Driving/Due care etc. Nothing through the letter box in 15days from incident then
could be not a real Plod.......

Cannot find anything under SOCPA 2005 that amends/repeals Section 163 RTA 88.
It does mention that a member of SOCA if designated by Director General of SOCA can have the powers of a Constable and excercisable in UK. But to me, as SOCA are not a uniformed body they will require BiB to stop a vehicle?

The new SOCPA laws are quite confusing with every bib trying to get their head around them... I am pretty sure that a constable no longer is required to be in uniform to stop a vehicle - I will check when I go back to work later tonight.
Mel - Did this bloke have his "id card" in a black wallet type case with a badge? If not it wasn't a warrant card. It doesn't sound like this bloke was genuine and if he was then you have nothing to worry about - That behaviour he displayed would warrant (excuse the pun) the loss of his job!
Hi Mungo, still enjoying the job? haven't see you on the m27 lately. Alan
At the end of the day I come from Kent and only a few weeks ago a Securitas manager stopped for a fake polieman and look how that panned out!!!! There was no way I was stopping, I guess I'm just wondering what the likelyhood is of getting a visit from local plod or a NIP through the post form wherever, and if I do and it's my word against his what's the score?

I believe you only have to stop if he is in uniform.

Two words 'Job Pissed'. I'd love for him to try that one with me.
I once had someone do a similar thing to me. He started waving his badge at me on the M11 which was quite funny as I could see that it was an 'Her Majesties Immigration Services' warrant card. I out-trumped him with my Police warrant card and he then skulked off. His face was a treat!
A little off topic, but related non the less, I received this the other day in an e-mail from a reliable source.....
A bit of useful advice - it is true, someone has asked the Dorset Police
It's been said that this number works in the UK
Thought you should know this....The number does work from a mobile
This actually happened to someone's daughter. Lauren was 19 yrs old and in college. This story takes place over the Christmas/New Year's holiday break.
It was the Saturday before New Year and it was about 1.00pm in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend , when an UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put its lights on.
Lauren's parents have 4 children (of various ages) and have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather wait until they get to a service station, etc. So Lauren remembered her parents' advice, and telephoned 112 from her mobile phone . This connected her to the police dispatcher. She told the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her and that she would not pull over right away but wait until she was in a service station or busy area .
The dispatcher checked to see if there was a police car where she was and there wasn't and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back-up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 police cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her.
One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground.........the man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew that bit of advice, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you do not have to pull over for an UNMARKED car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a "safe" place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e., put on your hazard lights) or call 112 like Lauren did.
This is good information that I did not know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
