Is this like "Safety Cameras" used to catch dangerous drivers and "Anti-Terrorism" laws to stop evil terrorists then ?

Cool.

That just means that:

1) People who are in the process of keeping/rebuilding classic cars are going to have to pay more administration tax.

2) The same people who are currently risking driving an uninsured/unMOTed car are actually getting caught through ANPR. Hear, hear to that, but all that will happen after this is enforced for these same sctrotes to just go 'off the radar' by cloning plates, putting a false name on the V5, or 'making good' a write off to ride round in.

There will be a SORN type notification for an uninsured off road vehicle.

There is also a new offence (under different legislation) of driving a vehicle with no current keeper. This offence is commited by the driver (not the owner) to put a stop to criminal pool cars.

Of course with ANPR if they are driving around in a cloned car, Police will be able to check where the vehicles have been seen & when. If there are two running around at the same time this should be traceable on the system.

Vonhosen - your knowledge of this further restrictive legislation indicates you are connected in some way with DVLA. I hope you are not. I have met some of these dimwits and you can do a search on here to find what my low opinions of them are.

The DVLA ads about knowing where they have to look says it all - it the system was so good , why have DVLA hit squads running round the country and ads asking people to pass on information about suspected untaxed cars, which are expected to sit and wait till the hit squad arrives to clamp it , not to be used as daily transport.

Maybe because they acknowledge at other times that about one third of their records are inaccurate
