Und it save 10 minutes ...

Per manchester paper - they say that lone driver using the lane may get penaly pointed for this.

AA und RAC said they though a new lane should be built for this... because people do not conveniently live in same road und work at same place. This does not happen any more.

Und they said it will look very sill to people to be sat in queue when there ist completely EMPTY lane for them to use...

Ach... politicians who want to be "greener than t' other mob!"

Ist all Greenwash!

What on earth makes you think it's a southern vindictive attack? The bloody government ministers that aren't Scottish are are bloody northerners anyway. What's more, where do you think the M4 is? That's had a bus lane on it or years thanks to that nice Mr(Kingston-upon-Hull)Prescott!

They said on the radio its an extra lane you're getting, so it may actually be better for you.

I particularly like the last bit:
'National discussions are being held on how to make sure that only cars with more than one occupant use the car share lanes.
Until a decision is made, West Yorkshire Police will be patrolling the M606-M62 car share lane.
They will have a patrol car stationed on a raised platform.'

From what I have heard on the news, they are going to use the hard shoulder for this mulitple person lane, so what happens in the event of a breakdown? The broken car will have to go in the hard shoulder to wait assistance and then all the cars with lots of people in will have to get back into the mainstream of traffic. And if there is an accident, the emergency services will need that hard shoulder to get past the grid lock.

Or am I looking at this all wrong and missing something really obvious?

And to comply with the regulations each police car will have one passenger....

Great, so we pay for the road to be built and then the pricks don't let us use it WTF is the point of having an under used section of motorway in the rush hour?

Why are the commies so scared of personal mobility?

Currently 84% of vehicles are single occupancy. One lane is 33.3% of the motorway therefore 66.6% use two lanes on average. So to make 84% use two lanes of three (66.6%) or three lanes of four (75%)for the benefit of 16% will reduce congestion. As George Orwell said in 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' two plus two really does equal five if someone thumps you hard enough. 'Truth is Lies'

I agree. I work all over the country for my company and work by myself. Why do I have any less right to get somewhere as quickly as possible? In a lot of cases it is simply not possible to carshare.

In fact, even if people *choose* not to carshare when they could they are already paying for it. They pay £200 a year in car tax, and some insurance premium tax. If we say for example that they could save doing 5000 miles per year by car sharing that is also about £400-£500 in VAT and fuel duty on the fuel.

This reminds be of the Aesop fable about the sun and the wind. The wind bets that he can blow a guys coat off better than the sun, who accepts the challenge. The wind blows and blows and all it succeeds in doing is making the guy do up his coat tighter, so he gives up. The sun just shines and because he guy now thinks it is going to be a warm day, he takes his coat off *by choice*.

What I mean by this is, people would *choose* to use public transport if it were financially viable, could get them there on time, and would get to the place they wanted to go. Unfortunately my experience of it is that it fails to do all three.

All that will happen is that business will be halted as people just will not be able to use the road. Does it happen? When the highways agency announced that the roadworks at Thelwall Viaduct on the M6 were going to take even longer than the years it expected. BNFL with thousands of employees upped and left, because already their employees and visitors were having a nightmare journey and their day was disrupted.

It'd be interesting to see what the net affect of this is, I'd reckon that the average car journey per head will rise thus using more fuel and more cash to our deserved government to reduce some of their loans.

Envy is the most likeliest answer, although you'll never hear a lefty admitting such.
