Foreigners buying a car
Discussion
So as some of you may or may not be aware, I'm doing the Mongol Rally this summer. It's like a Plymouth-Dakar thing, only stupider and more dangerous.
Anyway, there are some foreign teams entering this year, and there's lots of questions being asked about the best way to acquire cars when they get over here. Now, when buying a new car, you gotta send off the V5C, tax and MoT it assuming it isn't valid already, and insure it.
Now, the biggest issue, as far as I can see, is with the V5C. What are the rules for proof of address/residency etc. Could someone either offer their address for use on the V5C or, assuming proof of address is needed, just register the V5C under his own name? What responsibilties does the registered keeper of the car have - i.e why would registering a car under your name for someone else to drive be a bad thing?
Once the V5C issue is dealt with, then tax and MoT are a doddle, and insurance companies don't really care either way, so long as they know the details of who drives the car and where they can be contacted, as far as I can see.
Any input from those that know these things?

Register it as exported, team mates drive ot out of the country within a reasonable time eg a month. Car is MOT exempt at this point too. (one of the few exceptions in the law)
