Abuse by the BiB

Forums really should be self moderating and I believe HW apolgised for his language. Some people come on here to try and verbally 'bloody the nose' of a serving BIB for whatever sad gratification they can get from it.

Can I ask what purpose changing your username will serve when you have just stated who you were previously?

I remember reading a few of your posts, and do think you put forward a valuable contribution. It is sad to find you fell you have been bullied. The post you have highlighted seems to have abused the forum rules, but if the poster has retracted it and/or apologised then that is fair enough as we have all made mistakes and said things in the heat of the moment.

I must say that I have not seen the forums abused by BiB so I am guessing this is a pretty isolated case, but it does re-iterate the fact that whilst the discussion may be heated, that is no reason not to behave as gentlemen - in the non-sexist meaning of the word.

I, for one have defended myself on a couple of cases in court and from that been able to help out quite a few people. From that I know that there is a real place for a specialist solicitor to have input to the forums in the way of helping with an additional viewpoint to questions as well as possibly giving legal advice. I am sure that if posters wanted to contact you to represent them in court that this would be a situation which would work for everyone.

Hollywood Wheels has apologised for his abusive language so I think that should be an end to it, he took exception to my critiscism of the police as I see it, only my opinion of course, and he is perfectly within his rights to air his greivance, as am I.
Anyway I think I gave back as good as I got and we're best buddies now, well at least we're both Lotus lovers.
As I have said in my post CORRUPTION I was mainly intending to attack the Governmert for it's policies, I didn't want it to degenerate into a witch hunt against plod in general.

I have not been on this site for very long, but I find it an even cross-section of the views of drivers in this beleaguered country. There are extremes of attitude here as there are in any pub, bar, coffee shop, bus queue, doctor's waiting room or any place that people meet and exchange opinions.
I do not recognise your old site ID, but feel rather wary about a returnee in the law profession who claims some form of victimisation as their reason for leaving the site and, upon their return, muddies waters already cleared by the involved parties.
You also intimate at advertising a legal service on the site from which, I presume, you would gain financially if employed by a site member.
Please take no offence as none is offered but, would you have felt the need to return your purportedly oppressed views to this site without the instigation of your new legal venture and what has driven you to disclose your previous persona on this site if it elicited such antipathy as to make it impossible for you to remain a member?

As a PHer and SafeSpeed member, I would like you to clarify your standpoint as, without prejudice to yourself, we are being harangued by 'trolls' and spammers at an alarming rate.

Myself and LotusElan17 had a bit of heated banter. I think it's been proved that we're both man enough to accept our differences. In fact i don't doubt for one moment that if we met we would probably get along very well indeed. I was out of order swearing and name-calling, for which i apologised. I'm only human. Rather than sneakily delete posts like you have, i would rather be man enough to admit my mistakes. He to his credit has accepted my apology and we've moved on. I doubt if either of us are the slightest bit bitter and twisted, unfortunately the same can't be said of you....

This is a very contoversial site at times, and certainly not pro-BiB. However, i and other serving Officers post here because of our love of cars and driving, and hopefully to let people see our view of things.

Every time you posted on here as 'Iolaire' you seemed to upset the very people you were trying to drum up support with. You're lengthy posts were often described as 'boring' by people who regularly tear into the BiB here.

Your drink-drive crusade was dangerously ill-advised, and the advice given within the posts was completely incorrect, and risked losing fellow PHers their driving licences. When those in the know attempted to advise you of this, you poo-poo'd them. You should never have climbed up on your high-horse over such a complicated issue, yet you never apologised for the bad advice you gave.

Take a lesson in Diplomacy Iolaire. Get off your high horse and dispense with the crusades, stop standing up for the common-man whilst patronising him every step of the way.

Seriously, I think some people are looking to create a 'them and us' situation and try and push the buttons of certain bib that will bite. I hope that it decreases as ther is so much ego posting on here that its difficult to see the little pearls of wisdom..

Is the quote you posted from HW really what has stirred you up enough to change your name etc...?

It might be me but it doesn't seem very harsh at all - I would hardly consider it 'abuse'. In addition to this it appears that HW has even apologised for it, but this seems to have neen overlooked.

I think its a bit sad when you have the time to post up a reaction like this - surely if you don't like it here you wouldn't keep logging on ?

When all said and done, HW called someone else an 'idiot', which is fairly tame isn't it ?

I beleive that you are mistaken in your interpretation of the 'warning' that you mentioned. It never said not to have a go at the BIB who post here, it said not to attack them just because thats what they were.... I think you will find disagreeing with them (even in a heated manner) is probably alowable. As it is allowable for them.

It's the internet, FFS. Given the medium there will always be a range of opinions on display. Personally I try to only post what I actually think, but I am always aware that there are those out there who adopt a view only long enough to reel in a few fish and then be on their way. Why get upset about that?

For every 'fisherman' out there there'll be some lurkers who are actually reading the arguments and making their own decisions. If I post in a controversial topic I'm aware that I might be arguing with someone who can't be convinced, but my post might be read by someone else who can...

I'd just like to chip in at this point to thank IOLAIRE/satis as in the past he responded and was very helpful to me on a BiB issue I was having. It was very much appreciated

Would also like to thank the BiB on the site as their input is also very much appreciated and this place would be poorer without them.

There will always be differences of opinion on boards like this, let's just try to keep it civilised and play nicely together

When I believe I am right I have stuck to my word to the end, if wrong I have stepped down from my soapbox. There has been a few times on here that people have given out bad advice and when challenged by Bib have either stopped posting or disappeared only to reappear later under a new ID. I don't feel superior and have met many PHers at Tunnel runs, events and at various drinks held by members of this site, all of which I have been warmly accepted. I have even had HughsieII out on patrol with me. The whole point of a forum is to debate / discuss certain topics, if we all came on and agreed with no difference of opinion how boring would this site be.

I may be wrong but I think "MGBGT" was saying that "slowly slowly" was only correct in saying that his/her post was no help to the discussion

Well, in my opinion you are wrong on two counts.

1. Most BiB "come on here" for exactly the same reasons as everybody else.
2. Your statement is definitely of no help to the discussion.

All the BIB who post on here are doing so in their own time (I assume ) and not 'on duty', which makes them PH'ers and nothing more...

It just so happens their knowledge pertains to alot of what is discussed on this forum, and if they are willing to share that helps us all......

That's the way I see it. Those that think the bib on here think they are 'superior' are dreaming, or have been watching too much of the bill. We're no different to anyone on here, just have a profession that is sometimes a contentious one, and can be targets as someone has fallen foul of the law at some stage.

If I have a question regarding a medical matter I will kindly ask one of the ph medics, a civil law question, I will ask one of our ph lawyers, so people can freely ask me anything relating to criminal law and I will answer to the best of my ability. Saying that, I tend to do this via email from members due to the negativity which is prevalent as of late. Yes, I know it's a debate, but I come on here in my spare time as a motoring enthusiast and leave my cap in work. As for being superior, utter rubbish. And yes, most serving officers are the same as me, just normal bods that enjoy their job.....and in what time they have off try to get some sort of a life with family and hobbies.
