I still cannot find any legislation that states "stick on plates are illegal"

It's not that they ain't legal, its just the ones out there don't reflect enough for the DVLA's liking.

It also needs to mounted so that it's 90 degrees to the road surface.

Caravan shops have been selling stick on rear plates for decades, AFAIK the caravanning fraternity have not had any problems. I cant see anything wrong with the font or spacing on that plate at all, if it was a real plastic plate screwed to the front of the car, it wouldnt be any different, just a touch thicker that's all.

It must have a BS spec number on to be legal and no stick ons meet the requirements therefore it is illegal.

Perhaps caravans get around it by not being registered vehicles?

As stated stick on plates won't meet the BS standard.

So the answer depends on the age of the car?

Does this help? www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_roads/documents/page/dft_roads_506805.pdf

It appears to give all the rules for pre- and post Sept 01 vehicles.

definitely not legal; the script font isn't for starters - run the risk of an on-the-spot fine (£20 i believe) if you're pulled over by an 'officious officer'

beautiful looking car btw - interesting colour; works for me
