HGV's and lane restrictions
Discussion
A1 Black Cat roundabout roadworks, Saturday, two lanes to one. Signs clearly remind motorists to us both lanes while queuing. So, motorists ahead of me in lane 2 (driving sensibly, no screaming up and in at the last minute) when HGV artic decides to straddle both lanes almost destroying two cars. Proceeds to straddle the white line for half a mile, swerving whenever a car attemps to pass.
This was Northbound. An hour later, heading Southbound, same place - same thing happens! WTF, can't these to**ers read!
Apart from causing increased delays and frustration, its effin dangerous. Why do this, who made HGV's pseudo traffpol?

It is a misconception that by straddling both lanes a bubble is created ahead because lane 2 rejoining lane 1, lane 1 has to give way and can bring that lane to a crawl/stop.
I generally filter in from lane 2 well ahead which leaves lane 2 clear for others to bomb down to the very end and create the crawl.
I have only once seen the Zip signing which seemed a good idea. Wonmdre why it was not adopted.

If I was on my own,I'd just go past them. It's an open lane and they will have effectively driven into you with tone of witnesses. Attempted death by reckless driving sound nice. For some reason (I'm not tarring you with this brush towman) some lorry drivers think that they know best just becuase they do so many miles.
By doing what they do, you get two lanes of solid traffic behind the lorry. Not exactly problem solved is it? There are always gaps in lane one to move into due to the stop and start nature, particularly in front of lorries as they can't acclerate as quickly as the cars.

Well, I, for one, welcome lorries doing this.
Why should drivers who are sensible and pull in early have to watch others flying up the outside lane and pushing their way in at the very last inch, and I do mean inch. It just gets others mad
The traffic moves far better through the roadworks (or what ever it is) and it helps prevent road rage.
I hope they keep doing it!

Know what you mean but some people start forming the single lane at the first sign which may be a mile before it. The rear of lane one then moves backwards and eventually passes the first sign. Drivers then have no idea there is a restriction and have no choice but to continue down lane 2.
That is the reason that signs saying 'Use both lanes & filter in turn' are now put up.

Define sensible. There are two lanes open and available to queue in to keep the queue length short and you choose only to use lane 1? Why do people think that only the inside lane is a valid place to queue? If there are two lanes then use them!!!!
As for pushing in at the last moment, well there are always idiots. Some aggressively pushing in at the last moment from lane 2 and some sitting in the inside lane blocking lane 2 at the filter point. If people in the lanes simply filter (zip like) then there is no problem.

This one has been raised before, bottom line, these t(f)uckers have absolutely no right whatsoever to decide what I can and cannot do in my car.
If the sign says use both lanes, then lets use both lanes, they do nothing but irritate those behind them, if it says merge ahead, then lets merge ahead, if folk left gaps for vehicles to pull in no problem.
Two attitudes sod this up, the guy in the inside lane "No one is going to pull in front of me, I might loose 10 ft of road", and the ones who zoom down to the end and force others to let them in.
I often will stay in lane 2 as far as reasonable, then indicate left, AND WAIT until someone lets me in, I dont force myself in.
And those bloody lorry drivers should take a run and jump, take his number and report him, I am sure if there are two of you in the car they might take note of your report.
Apologies to our good lorry drivres, but there are some bad buggers out there.

I hate self appointed traffic know it alls! Had one on the way back from Edinburgh when it snowed badly. The M74 was open but only two lanes. The second lane was very slushy but drivable at the pace the traffic was moving. Infact the more that drove down the second lane the clearer it obviously became. Well one small minded idiot decided he would block the second lane and only move when the traffic beside him moved.
The lane he was blocking was clear but he decided that he was obviously in the right. The matter that I knew that the road ahead was clear did nothing to cool my mood. After sitting waiting for too long I decided to take this pathetic little man to task. I knocked on his window and asked why he was blocking the road. His pathetic excuse was that the traffic was merging into one lane some where ahead. He had no idea where ahead just somewhere ahead. I knew just that bit more as I had various friends further up the road at different distances and they had already confirmed that the road was passable and two lanes all the way. well this didn't satisfy the moron so I kindly offered to drive his car into the adjacent snow drift so that others could pass. Suffice to say he moved and those of us in the second lane moved off. It only took an hour to clear through the tailback instead of the hours it would have taken sitting behing Mr know it not

So why don't they cone the 2nd lane off back to the point where you think it's sensible to only be using 1?
As others have said, two lanes are there to be used. No one has the right to decide to block one of them off.
Anyone heard of a village near Taunton called Henlade? There's a mile long dual carriageway that merges to a single carriageway. Every morning the vehicles queue in the 1st lane of the dual carriageway for that entire mile! I'm very gratefull as I pass them all in the empty lane two! Every day they do this!!
