M/Bikes in bus lanes
Discussion
Now, of course it's wrong....I would never do it....However, on the daily commute, do you think the BIB would turn a blind eye, because hundreds of bikes use the bus lanes. Now, they're not all over it, more like riding up the inside of the traffic, sometimes on the white line, sometimes not. Now before anyone gets on their high horse, yes hang the lot of them, but to any of the BIB on here, would "they" expect a pull? I wouldn't normally ask, but everyone seems to do it!
Cheers.

'Round these here parts, bikes are allowed in bus lanes.
Oh, and pushbikes which (a) serves to block the bus lane for buses & taxis and (b) allows the council to claim some extraordinarily large total milage of "cycle lanes", making themselves look good and neatly ignoring the fact that most non-suicidal cyclists aren't exactly thrilled at the prospect of being forced to play chicken with the homicidal maniacs employed to steer buses around.

Yes, I just paid my tax today for straying two car lengths into a bus lane
Caught by CCTV. Its hardly the crime of the century but attracts a £100 fine
However the pictures show a long shot of rear of car and close up of front so M/c "might" get away with it ???

In London it isn't BiB to be worried about.
Eye in the sky (CCTV) knocking out PCN's on piece and quite lawful.

Really? So I (I mean they) could get done by a cctv camera?
Yes, I've been done on my motorbike in a bus lane by CCTV. £100 fine, £50 if paid in 14 days. There are a couple of bus lanes which motorbikes can use, this is a pilot scheme at the moment. I don't know if or when they will roll it out properly.

Some time ago when i was a 'probationer' and didn't deal with real villains, i was expected to carry out mundane tasks, such as issue tickets for no seat belt, bus lane usage etc. I never gave a ticket to any biker in a bus lane, to me it was no harm done and no piss taken. However, some of my colleagues did issue tickets....

Thanks for that. I only use where the roads are congested, and I'll only be in by about a foot or so, hugging the white line where I can, so I'm guessing it would be harsh to get nicked....Still, will be careful though!

Also while I'm ranting about bus lanes have you ever noticed that Black cabs use them when they are empty but sit in the traffic when they have passengers !!
Don't go there!
It's interesting to note the amount of 'tolerence' applied by the camera operators watching over our capital's network of bus lanes.
They're really generous. For example...
- They COULD fine you for impedeing a bus lane when just your wing-mirror was on the white line but in reality they'll only do you for a tyre touching it.
- They can fine you for using any part of the lane during hours, even on the approach to a junction where the left turn is clear but you can't access it coz the thur is blocked. They'll only do you for using more than 20m or so of the empty lane. Even though travelling further inconveniences no-one.
I'm working for TfL at the mo and the monitoring of our roads is super scary. Some really well intentioned initiatives genuinely designed to make the best of a bad lot.
Unfortunately policy is usually goverened from higer up...

My own personnel view and this is mine not My employer's is get rid of all bus lanes. They serve no purpose and block up London's roads more than they need to. Surely six lanes instead of the four and two bus lanes on the Euston / Marlybone Road would cut alot of congestion, and have propper bus stops for buses to pull out of the traffic into. Most bus drivers, sorry steering wheel attendants struggle to keep the big red thing in the bus lane anyway so cause even more congestion. Also while I'm ranting about bus lanes have you ever noticed that Black cabs use them when they are empty but sit in the traffic when they have passengers !!
Bus lanes do serve a purpose - to allow buses to do what they're supposed to do in traffic. Sadly, if most other road users were more considerate to buses pulling away from stops (notwithstanding that far too many bus drivers insist on pulling out without looking/caring anyway) and into the traffic flow then there wouldn't be such a problem. Also remember if there were no bus lanes, with the theory that buses move around more quickly than other traffic as a result, then the local authorities & government would lose most of the incentive for people to use them in the first place!

PS most bus lanes allow use by taxis also

Some t t on a Motorbike came up the "No Motorbike" Bus lane and T-boned my wife's car as she crossed it. Worse still he was found to be "only 90%" at fault so both parties lose their no claims and he is persuing a personal injury claim. The world is truly bonkers
How on earth can someone be "only 90%" at fault???
Insurance companies are such tw*ts!!!

Around here the council has placed busstops at the same point as traffic islands - leading to the fact that when the bus stops it blocks everyone. Totally pointless and counter productive!

I assume the bike driver's insurance company didn't want 100% fault and so claimed the guy above's wife should have looked to her left before crossing into a lane; you look in your mirror when crossing from lane 2 to lane 1 on a motorway, why not elsewhere?
(this is a guess, I'm not accusing here).

I was in a bus lane in London, when I almost T Boned a car, but managed to swerve and just catch my leg on the front of the car. As it turned out I shouldn't have been in the bus lane, there is a break in lanes, so it goes 1 mile allowed, 500 yds not allowed, then 3 miles of being allowed. (Commercial Road if you know it).
Luckily for me there was a meatwagon sitting in the traffic, who saw what happened. Flashing lights went on and 8 OB got out. I pulled over to kerb, other fella tried to drive off. I was shi**ing it as I knew I should not have been in bus lane.
After the guy got a roasting for attempting to drive off, I was asked if I wanted to take it any further, by a couple of the OB. There was no damage apart from a knocked knee. So I said no.
After the fella pulled off I asked if I should or should not have been in bus lane (trying to play the innocent card). I was told that officially I shouldn't have been, however he should have seen me, the driver of the meatwagon had seen me. His comment was that what if I had been a bus that he hadn't seen? Imagine the carnage?!
Obviously I do not know the circumstances, (she may have already pulled out, rather than she pulled across him) - but would your wife have seen the bus?
