Can anyone point in the direction of the law and crash helmets in cars? IIRC you can't wear a crash helmet driving a saloon car on the public road - ok in open top cars with aero screens.

Is this correct or am I mistaken here.

Cheers.

Cannot at the moment come up with anything that prohibits wearing a crash helmet in a car, solid or open topped. MC(Protective Helmet) Regs 1998 only deals with motor cycles.

Sikhs wear turbans when driving, apart from weight very similar in that it encapsulates the head.

Ahem, I've tried both. A turban will not cut down your peripheral vision, nor will it interfere with your hearing. Also, yet to come across a full face turban with a visor.

Errr... I dont think so!! No Sikh tuban I have ever seen restricts the peripheral vision of the wearer.

I always wear a Davida helmet with goggles when driving the Lotus ,

However it is fitted with full race harness , Which I am reluctant to secure ....

Reason ,,in 1961 this car was never fitted with seatbelts , Those that used to race them advised , in a crash m you would stand better chance of being thrown out !!!

documented cases of the suspension wrapping around your legs at even low speed impact.

so wear helmet and take the chance of being thrown out !!!lol.

What if you wore a Darth Vader helmet - could you claim it was 'protective'. Or an X-Men Magneto helmet? Rather like the idea of driving around in a Darth Vader outfit, but not sure of law.
