Driving north up the M42 early yesterday afternoon - clear traffic. After the A45 junction the speed limit came down to 60, then 50 with the signs saying "congestion".

Hidden on one of the bridges was an attentive Talivan...

Traffic was so clear that the outside lane was empty...

Are you referring to the advisory speed signs?
Nope - it was the variable signs on the overhead gantries

Matrix signs in the middle are indeed advisory as are the "sharp bend max speed x" sign on a number of interchanges.

If you are in the ATM zone I suspect it was a talivan or at least wasn't active. The ATM zone has gatso's covering every lane incl hard shoulder on about 2 out of 3 gantries carrying the speed limit

I would laugh if it wasn't so depressing. How long did it take for them to abuse it???
