Dangerous driver gaoled
At least she never broke the speed limit...
A woman with one leg led police on a merry chase last week, as she drove erratically for 24 miles around Hampshire, according to a report in London's Evening Standard last week.
Sandra Siddle's Corsa drove at a police officer, then went through red lights and overtook on blind bends. The chase ended when the car crashed near Alton, Hants, and the car burst into flames.
She was facing gaol at Portsmouth Crown Court after being convicted of dangerous driving. But, the police said, she never broke the speed limit. So that's all right then...

hm...brake the speedlimit, you will be convicted like a criminal?!
(better be a criminal, that way you wont be convicted like one
) What is more dangerous? brake the speedlimit where its "safe" to do so, or do all those things that woman did? mostly, Justice does no justice to justice...

But it must have been a pretty serious crime for Portsmouth magistrates to consider sending her all the way to an American "gaol".
Or has someone left their spellcheck on "English (US)"?
"Gaol" is the correct spelling of a place of incarceration that has been subverted (and replaced) by the American Engish word "jail".

I just think it's great to see "gaol" spelt properly in print for once.
It's got to the stage that even I write "jail" these days as most people aren't aware of the correct spelling. I fear that "gaol" will soon be listed as 'archaic' in the dictionary with "jail" as the accepted way of speling the word.

The point is well made though.
She could do all this and not trigger a single speed camera!
On the bright side, having all those speed cameras around has freed up the Trafpol to do roads policing like this rather than speed checks. I'm sure everyone agrees that's good news.

must have been really good police drivers as they couldn't catch a one legged woman in a corsa driving under the speed limit! 24 miles they chased her and only caught her because she crashed!!! Maybe they were on foot??
It would have been funnier to watch if she had been on foot as well ;-)
