A very good program.

Of particular interest, the guy that got 6 points and £300 fine for 38MPH on Tower Bridge.

There were two similar cases where drivers had pleaded guilty by post and got heavy fines and points.

Just goes to show that making a court appearance could be worth it.

I hope Paul from safespeed will explain this later.

Apparently Paul was saying that Tower Bridge is controlled by the City of London police, and not a SCP, and that the 20MPH speed limit was only intended for HGV's to 'protect' the structure of the historical bridge.

Ah......i see. 6 points?! Crazy! City do have a reputation. I often used to go through their Gatsos on the way to immediate calls. Every time, i had to do a full pocketbook entry regarding the call i was attending, speed, road conditions etc. They would often send through an NIP to Officers passing through on blues and twos belive it or not....

So are you saying that part of the form filling problem we often hear about as a reason for some loss of on street time may be down to internal though inter-force operational policies?

If so I might have to re-consider whether the consolidation of forces, which makes me suspicious of the motives for it at the moment, may in fact be beneficial in other areas of operations.

On the other hand, since there seems to be no rational logic applied to most of the things that seek to control our lives at the moment, it may be unrealistic to hope that police procedures are unaffected by the trappings of petty bureaucracy.

I have a bit of homework to do. But:

* Yes, the 20mph limit on Tower Bridge is operated by City of London Police.
* The 20mph speed limit MAY be needed for heavy vehicles to protect the bridge structure, but the speed limit is for all vehicles.
* There are various ongong challenges to the legality of the speed limit. That's the homework bit.
