Hi, if anyone is about...

I have just acquired a crack in my windscreen passenger sie about 6 inches long, does not obscure drivers vision. I have it booked in for replacement Tuesday (first available slot).

The question is am I legal to drive it tomorrow (Monday)?

Many thanks for your help

I had a crack in the window of my A4, about 9 inches long, went through 4 MOTs no problem

Watch it doesn't creep and get bigger, we had a stone chip in our windscreen and then the next time I looked at it had crept six inches. By the time I got to tyhe auto glass centre it was nearly 12 inches (fnurk fnurk)

I think you can get a mobile crew to come out and apply a resin that will stop the crack increasing.

Might be worth doing.

If the crack is more than 10mm on the passenger side and it is in the viewing of the wiper blade it means that it will damage the edge of the blade so it will not pass the mot and you could be booked my the old bill

autoglass did a nice replacement job - shame the mirror was very wobbly.... Do they check things?

From my experience, no they don't.......

Had mine in on Wednesday lunchtime for a new windscreen (Stones make a big hole in your screen at 70mph on the M6)

They fitted the new windscreen fine, and my rear view mirror was in the right place, but....

Later that evening, I went to use my front windscreen washers. Nothing happened. They hadn't even reconnected the washer hose properly, so I have ended up with a lovely clean engine bay......

Then when I looked under the bonnet to refit the hose myself, I noticed one of the screws on the pollen filter housing was about to fall out. AND they had snapped off a locating lug which connects the scuttle to the pollen filter cover.

Needless to say I was less than impressed.

However, to give them their dues, they have apologised and, with no hesitation, are fitting me a brand new scuttle plate at their expense tomorrow.....

Had autoglass out to fit a new windscreen to my golf the other week. Highly amusing - had a conversation with the call centre where i repeatedly told the girl that this car has auto wipers with a sensor on the windscreen so make sure you bring the right one. Her reply - not possible sir, golfs dont have auto wipers. I described it to her, asked her what she thought the auto wiper button was for then - but no she was adamant you cant have that on a golf. I asked her to note it down anyway.

Man turns up in van with standard golf windscreen. His first comment on stepping out of the van - without any prompting from me - oh, you have auto wipers they didnt tell me that Ive just got the standard screen, you need a special one with the fitting for the sensor. No thats not possible I say to him, golfs dont have auto wipers ........

mmm they are crap, but my insurers have a tie-in with them so i was forced to go to them as otherwise i'd only get a £150 contibuition less excess if i went elsewhere, despite others being listed on the rear of the policy as an approved repairer

kept waiting 2 hrs to replace which was better than the other couple in the waiting room who'd been there nearly 4 hrs for a screen to come from manchester - a journey of less than an hour
