People who park against the traffic
Discussion
Is it just me or does it annoy the hell out of anyone else!!
Appart from obviously being very dangerous (you have to get half way out of the parking bay before you can see it's clear) it causes chaos when they are also trying to parralel park.
And traffic wardens pay not attention, they only worry about tickets 2 mins over!
There must be a law against stupid driving?

Highway code rule 222: You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.
(granted you said 'parking bay')
I thought this rule was related to the reflective properties of the tail-lights? (and lack of at the front)
What REALLY annoys me is the numbskulls who park-up facing the wrong way at night to: "drop someone off"...Then they sit there for 15 mins chatting with their headlamps blinding everyone approaching them....
I usually switch on full beam, spotlamps etc and drive straight at them......missing them by inches....
They STILL don't get itthough...

Agreed. Far more irritating than parking against the traffic flow, and very dangerous as disembarking passengers assume they can be seen when in fact they are in darkness.

Really annoying that they do that.
Absolutely not a very clever way of dealing with it, however.

Doesn't spell out what constitutes "a recognised parking space", though, does it?
Odd, for a "MUST (NOT)" rule to be so vague.8Pack said:

Yeah I get really annoyed by that too, especially when ther is also a car parked opposite them making the gap in the middle very tight to fit a car through, combined with being blinded by their headlights

What do you suggest? That I stop and politely point out the error of their ways before being violently assaulted?...I'll stick to my method thanks, I'm to old to be fighting in the street.
Calling the Police is also a no-no, they're (a) "busy" and (b) "there's nothing they can do anyway".....

Righty ho then, you are looking for a space, and the only one in sight is on the other side of the road, do you drive by? I think not, like most of us, you will park in it, nowt wrong in that all. Getting out can be tricky especially if a van parks in front of you

Do you realy have so much belief in yourself that you think you are going to change the error of their ways from outside their car? That is misguided. Get yourself and your passengers out of the danger they have created as swiftly and safely as possible. Avoid the conflict - it's stupid. Certainly committing a further offence and raising the risk of a collision isn't the answer.

What do you do in one way streets with parking both sides?
In this instance all the traffic is pointing the same way. If parked on the "wrong" side of the road you can exit your parking space safely by using the passenger side door mirror. This is not possible when parked against traffic flow.

Yeah, I will turn round and park the right way as in my oppinion it is dangerous to park against the traffic, I'd love to see a case like this bought court when some one pulls out into oncoming traffic as they can't see them, sounds like a case of driving with out due care and attention to me.
On the one way traffic thing, you'd have to have seriously gone wrong somewhere to park against the traffic on a one way road!!
It also bugs me while someone will park in what appears to be the only space when the huge car park 50 yrds away is only 10p an hour, if you can't afford that you really shouldn't be driving!! (I'm thinking of Stonehouse in Glos in particular!)
AND another parking moan, why do people park on the road when they have a drive??
I bet they have told there insurance company they keep it on the drive!
And then theres the people that reverse out onto main roads when they have drives you could 3 point turn a truck in!!
God I hate other peoples parking habits, If only they were perfect like me!!!

The parking exemption is 101(2)(d) Road Vehicle (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986
It's standing on a part of a road set aside for the parking of vehicles, or as a stand for hackney carriages, or as a stand for buses, or as a place at which such vehicles may stop for a longer time than is necessary for the taking up and setting down of passengers where compliance with the provisions would conflict with the provisions of any order, regulations or bye- laws governing the use of such part of a road for that purpose.
There are other exemptions as well of course under 101(2).

Agree with not parking on your drive, personally I always REVERSE into my drive, getting out is safer. On the driveway less chance of your loved one being hit by some other road user?. Mind if I could park on the road instead of 50p in a car park I would probably opt for the car park, but not many seems to charge 50 these days, one in Aberdeen is £2 minimum, when you nip up town to ONE shop, this is taking the piss a little, mind one other there charges about 80p each 15 min, which aint bad if you are only up there for 10 mins or so.
Reference your first comment, good for you, s'pose if the road was wide enough to do a U turn, or traffice light enough to do a 3 point one, may do it myself. Yes I know what its like to be perfect, we should have a "Perfect Drivers Club" or soemthing for you and I, coz there aint many more of us around. Happy motoring.
