I have seen one of those along the A127 as you go into southend, I wonder if they are installing them, because of the cases that are going to the ECHR . Atb Derek

Ist it me? When they are vandalised - they cost four times as much as the price apparently paid for these more expensive versions...

This story appeared in "Wail" last week - but they described them as a "Truvelo"

Does anyone have photo of this latest scam?

Old news I'm afraid (shame on you, Times, for only JUST picking the story up). One of these double-camera set-ups has been resident in Harlow for the past 18 months, if not longer.

I really don't see the logic here. Why on earth would they want to exclude their best customers? Surely if someone's paying in excess of 240 quid every four years the camera businesses want them to keep on the roads.

They would be better off turning a blind eye if these drivers are distributing the points around a bit.

Does this mean we no longer have to incriminate ourselves as they have the picture of the person driving? Didn't think so.....

They used to send out the photos with the penalty notice in France. Unfortunately this lead to divorces when hubbies were snapped with mistresses, etc., so they are more discreet nowadays!

One issue is the danger of the flash in the face. Years ago I was flashed in the face at 3 in the morning on a dark dual carriageway (in France) at about 120 mph. God knows how many hundreds of metres I then covered completely blinded by the retina-searing zap on eyes accustomed to darkness. But hey, it's all about safety isn't it?

Anyone got a picture of what they look like, or do they look like a normal Gatso?

Whereabouts exactly? Are you refering to the 2nd gatso after the 40 limit start (where there's some sort of grey forward facing camera too)?

Yep, in old harlow near to the crem, I drive past it fairly regularly. To be honest though that limit is 40 and you have a good view of it from the road which is fairly straight, those who get caught really muct have their fingers up their arse..

Anyone know an IR tint that is clear to visible light? I believe (though could be wrong) that the law requiring no tint to front relates to the visible spectrum

Oh, also, Any law against powerful infra-red emitters facing forward on a car?

Number of things which brass me off about this modification to Gatsos.

TPTB know there are technological and operational problems with Gatsos which result in innocent people being accused. To give but one example the well documented issue with panel vans and some flatbeds which give false readings.

So no effort to cure this problem it appears, but every effort to increase the revenue.

How do they do this? By placing an extra solid piece of road furniture at sites of high risk. All sites are already high risk of course, yeah right.

Then again we have the extra wage costs of all the investigation individuals chasing up and going out to interview suspects when someone doesn't immediately fess up. Wages that could pay for proper traffic units not PC Gatso and his mindless minions.

Of course what also brasses me off is why this is being done is due to the 'chancers', and there is no other word to describe them, the 'chancers' who use a flawed system to wriggle off the hook and make life difficult for people who have a genuine question regarding the validity of the evidence.

The photo system for the new digital Gatsos are in fact IR based.

The filaments would have to be at least 400C before any amount of useful wavelengths (visible to the camera < 1000nm) will be radiated.
