what does an ANPR do then?

[forthright MC]

was watching traffic cops last night and saw the police officers using a dash mounted computer to read car number plates. just wondering what this computer detects as i nodded off during the show and missed it!
is it hooked up to the police database and detect cars without insurance or tax?
cheers!

It reads the numberplate, and then accesses the DVLA's out of date database and false accuses drivers of not having tax and/or insurance

it does a Fred Flintstone impression thats all, yabadabadoooooooooo
